Lil Durk Seeks Case Split or Dismissal Before Trial

Lil Durk says federal prosecutors changed his murder-for-hire case weeks before the August trial, adding new allegations and revived evidence, and he’s asking the judge to split the charges or dismiss the indictment over speedy-trial delays.

Lil Durk says federal prosecutors “blew up” his case just weeks before trial, and now he wants a judge to either split the fight into separate parts or toss the indictment entirely.

The federal case stems from a murder-for-hire accusation tied to the 2022 killing in Los Angeles of rapper Quando Rondo’s cousin. Durk’s new request comes with legal filings obtained June 30. 2026. arguing that prosecutors altered course after his team spent nearly 19 months preparing to meet the government’s original theory.

In the documents, Durk’s lawyers—Drew Findling and Brian Steel—say prosecutors suddenly stacked on new allegations and charges, changing the case into something they describe as “entirely different.” They point to added claims including drug trafficking, robbery, and an old Atlanta shooting.

Durk’s filing also says the government revived evidence from a January 2022 Chicago killing that prosecutors had previously said they would not use. The defense argues that after months of telling the court the evidence wouldn’t be part of the case. the government brought it back—forcing a restart of preparations just weeks before trial.

The August trial is at the center of Durk’s demand. His team is asking the judge to split the newly added charges away from the original murder-for-hire case so the August trial can move forward. If the judge refuses. Durk says the time the case has dragged on has stretched past what his lawyers call his right to a speedy trial. and that the indictment should be dismissed.

Durk’s legal trouble traces back to October 2024, when he was arrested in Florida. Prosecutors accused him of orchestrating a revenge hit on Quando following the death of fellow Chicago rapper King Von. The government’s account says the intended target survived. but Quando’s cousin. Saviay’a Robinson. was killed in the shooting.

For now, the judge has not ruled on Durk’s request.
