Grocery shopping doesn’t have to be a hassle if you have food restrictions or dietary issues. Apps can make it easier to find the foods safe for you.
Lidl has recalled some of its shortbread cookies due to potential allergens not listed on the product’s packaging, which could cause allergic reactions in customers.
Per Lidl, the cookies sold under the company’s Eridanous brand contain undeclared allergens, including wheat, soy, milk and egg. The company issued the recall on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration website on Tuesday, July 28, saying that the packaging has “foreign language packaging that did not contain English ingredients, nutrition facts, or allergen declarations.”
“People who have an allergy or sensitivity to wheat, soy, milk, or eggs run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume these products,” the supermarket chain wrote in the announcement.
As of late July, there have been no reports of illnesses tied to the cookies, Lidl said.
The cookies were distributed in 10 U.S. states between July 15 and July 22 to all Lidl stores, including Delaware and Virginia.
Lidl has recalled all units sold in its U.S. stores, the company said. USA TODAY contacted Lidl on July 29 to find out the total number of recalled units.

Recalled cookies were distributed in 10 states
Per Lidl, the recalled cookies include the:
- Eridanous Shortbread Cookies with Chocolate Truffle Coating and Apricot Filling
- 11.6 ounces or 330 grams
- UPC No. 4056489125839
Lidl said in the recall announcement that the cookies were sold in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia.
Do not consume cookies if you have sensitivities or allergies, Lidl says
Customers who have an allergy or sensitivity to wheat, soy, milk or eggs should not consume the Eridanous shortbread cookies, Lidl said. The company added that customers should toss the cookies or return them to their nearest Lidl store for a full refund, regardless of whether they have a receipt.

“Lidl US regrets any inconvenience related to this voluntary recall,” the company said.
