Letitia James Pushes Spurs on Knicks Game 5 Tickets

New York Attorney General Letitia James stepped into the NBA Finals ticket fight, urging the Spurs to give New Yorkers their Game 5 seats after fears that some out-of-state Knicks fans could lose tickets tied to a 150-mile restriction. MSG Sports later said Sp

The possibility of Knicks fans being shut out of Game 5 of the NBA Finals hit a nerve back in New York—and on Saturday, it escalated from fan frustration to a direct demand from New York Attorney General Letitia James.

James publicly called on the Spurs to “give New Yorkers their Game 5 seats back” after what she described as a ticket policy that threatened some out-of-state purchases ahead of Saturday night’s game. Her intervention landed with an unmistakable hometown angle. turning a postseason policy dispute into something that felt personal for Knicks supporters.

The controversy began after Knicks fans who purchased tickets for Saturday night were reportedly stunned to learn their orders could be canceled because they lived outside a 150-mile radius of San Antonio. The Spurs later said the restriction wasn’t created specifically for the Finals and added that it has been in place throughout the postseason.

But by Saturday afternoon. the situation shifted in a way that sounded like a resolution—at least for Knicks fans holding tickets. In a statement. MSG Sports said it confirmed with Spurs ownership that no Knicks fans would have their tickets revoked for Game 5. The statement also said all ticket holders would be allowed into Frost Bank Arena for the game.

That directly contradicts the fears that New Yorkers could be turned away because of the policy tied to where they live.

The timing couldn’t be more tense. The Knicks hold a 3-1 series lead and are one win away from claiming their first NBA championship in decades. With Game 5 looming, the ticket drama has become its own pressure point alongside the basketball stakes.

For now, it looks like the orange-and-blue invasion of San Antonio will go ahead—knock-on effects included, and the agent of change named in plain sight.

  1. Idk why I’m surprised the Spurs can’t just handle tickets like normal. Like of course it’s a NY AG getting involved, because everything becomes a fight now.

  2. The article says no Knicks fans will be turned away but then it also says some out-of-state purchases were at risk? That seems like it’s both happening and not happening. Maybe they mean “revoked” but not “cancelled”??

  3. Letitia James really out here policing NBA tickets like it’s consumer fraud lol. Next thing you know they’ll say the 150-mile thing is to stop scalpers or something. I just want the games to happen without people getting screwed over.
