A 21-year-old Lawrence man, Tyler Halley, was charged with murder after police found an unresponsive woman with a severe head wound in an apartment at 240 Canal St. Saturday morning. Prosecutors say the woman died shortly after arriving at Merrimack Health Law
A woman was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Merrimack Health Lawrence Hospital Saturday morning, and within hours a 21-year-old Lawrence man was facing a murder charge.
Lawrence police responded to a 911 call shortly after 3:15 a.m. on Saturday, heading to an apartment at 240 Canal St., prosecutors said. When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive woman with a severe head wound.
Prosecutors said the woman was taken to Merrimack Health Lawrence Hospital, where she was pronounced dead “shortly after arriving.” Her identity has not been released.
Tyler Halley, 21, is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Lawrence District Court, according to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office. The DA’s office said further information about the murder charge he’s facing will not be released until after the arraignment.
Lawrence police, State Police, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner are currently investigating the woman’s death and Halley’s connection to her, prosecutors said.
By the time the woman was declared dead, the case had already shifted from an emergency response to a formal criminal charge—one that will hinge on what investigators and medical examiners determine next as the arraignment approaches.
