Labour slams Musk as Belfast riots rage, turning to X

Labour accuses – British Labour Party officials accused Elon Musk of inciting violence after the tech entrepreneur amplified social media posts amid major riots in Belfast, Northern Ireland, that have included fires, attacks on homes, and violence directed at people of color.
When riots surged through Belfast, Northern Ireland, the violence didn’t just burn buildings and vehicles. It also tore through ordinary lives—streets turned into escape routes for families.
British Labour Party leadership accused Elon Musk of helping inflame the moment by amplifying posts on social media as anti-immigration rioting continued in the city. Labour Party Chair Anna Turley called Musk’s conduct “appalling. ” saying anyone trying to “drive and exploit a situation like this to drive their own political agenda is grievously wrong and doing damage.” She added that “we’ve seen children. families having to flee their homes on the streets of Belfast last night.”.
The unrest followed news that a Sudanese refugee with legal status was charged with attempted murder for stabbing and attempting to behead another man on Monday night. As the story spread, far-right activists called for a “mass protest” across the UK in the early hours of Tuesday.
By Tuesday night, rioters reportedly lit buildings and vehicles on fire and broke into and damaged homes. The attacks included targeting by at least some rioters of people of color.
Against that backdrop, Musk—who has continued to be a major force on X—shared and promoted posts early Tuesday and again into Wednesday, drawing sharper criticism from Labour and others. He quoted a viral call for action, writing, “Only by protesting REPEATEDLY and LOUDLY will there be any change!!”
Labour’s focus wasn’t only on the meaning of that “change,” but on how Musk’s own posts escalated the rhetoric around violence.
On Tuesday at 11:03am ET. Musk posted: “The truth is that there are VASTLY more hate crimes. especially aggravated rape and murder. per person by Blacks against Whites than the other way around. The is not remotely debatable. as the numbers are so extremely lopsided!” He paired the claim with a link on the platform.
Earlier that same day, at 11:27am ET, Musk promoted a video clip of remarks he made to a crowd last September during a separate anti-immigration protest in the UK. In that clip, Musk said, “Whether you choose violence or not, violence is coming to you. You either fight back, or you die.”
Minutes later. at 11:32am ET. Musk responded to a right-wing member of Parliament. Rupert Lowe. who said his party. Restore Britain. would “aim to prosecute officials and politicians who knowingly placed dangerous third world savages in our communities”—and would “apply retrospectively.” Musk wrote “This is the way” in response.
By Wednesday, Musk kept pushing into the same stream of argument. At 8:48am ET. he boosted a post claiming “the left” pulled off “the greatest rhetorical heist of the century” by using the word “racist” to counter criticisms of their policies. About an hour later. he reposted a graphic depicting a judge beating a person holding a “White Lives Matter” sign with their gavel.
Labour’s accusation places Musk’s amplification of posts at the center of a debate that is already turning lethal: whether pushing confrontational. race-charged messaging helps create the conditions for street violence—or whether. as Musk has framed it in his online language. it is a response to broader political conflict.
The timing has fueled additional controversy inside the UK political world, and beyond it. The backlash comes as Musk is also positioned to benefit from a major financial milestone: the possibility that he could become the world’s first trillionaire with a SpaceX initial public offering that could “tank your retirement fund. ” a claim raised in the same account framing the criticism of his rhetoric.

Elon should stop posting stuff during riots… like wtf.
I saw something about Belfast and then the Musk thing and honestly it’s just all connected now?? Like social media is basically gasoline. If people are burning stuff then yeah blame the guy with the platform I guess.
So the Labour party is mad at Musk for sharing posts, but aren’t they also the ones that kinda control how the news gets out? Feels like this is just politics. Also the stabbing part is crazy, but I don’t get how a quote about protesting “loudly” turns into attempted beheading… unless the internet is like mind control or something.
This is so depressing. People of color getting attacked and families fleeing and then Elon’s out here boosting tweets like it’s a business move. I don’t even follow X but every time I hear his name it’s drama. “Only by protesting repeatedly and loudly” makes it sound like he’s encouraging more chaos, not helping anyone. And now they’re planning a mass protest across the UK like that won’t just make it worse… smh.
