King Mswati III Urges Unity at OACPS-EU Conference

King Mswati III advocated for global cooperation and harmony during the OACPS-EU parliamentary conference, emphasizing peace as a foundation for development.

He said peace, stability and unity resulted in positive outcomes and that decisions taken when working in collaboration flourish.. He expressed this during the gala dinner attended by delegates from across the Organisation of the African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS)-European Union (EU) at Ezulwini Palazzo on Monday evening..

He further urged for stronger cooperation, investment and shared development at the historic parliamentary conference.. His Majesty noted that originally the conference was not meant to be held in the country, but in another African state.. He said because of an unexpected challenge in the initial host country, the decision was taken to find another location for the conference.. It was then decided last month that the conference would be held in the kingdom.. He

appreciated that the delegates showed up within a short space of time, even though the host country was decided last month.. This, he said, reflected unity and collaboration.. He noted that the world was full of challenges, including outbreaks and conflicts in Africa, the Middle East, Europe and Asia, which affect everyone directly and indirectly.. The King emphasised the need to come together to tackle global crises, environmental issues and other challenges in one accord..

He said there were many challenges and social ills that still needed to be addressed.. These, he said, included job creation, inclusion of people with disabilities and gender equality, ensuring that all are supported.. Referring to the Ruby Jubilee and 58th birthday celebrations, he shared with the conference

that it was a celebration of 40 years of his reign, marking unity, happiness and togetherness in the kingdom.. The King also noted that in the past 40 years, the nation had worked together, endured challenges and achieved significant milestones.. He said throughout this journey, the most important achievement had been peace, stability and unity among the people.. “When God created man, He created them to live in peace with one another, respecting each other

regardless of who you are or what you believe in.. “This is one of the principles that we really need to promote among ourselves because when people are living in peace there are many positive results that come out of it.. “As a result of living together in peace, you are able to focus on many issues and problems which confront mankind.. “Many places still have a lot of social problems that we should look

into.. When people live together in peace, there are many opportunities that arise,” His Majesty emphasised.. He added that partnerships such as the OACPS-EU framework offered opportunities through grants, concessionary loans and preferential markets.. The King also noted that the African Union (AU) was formed by emulating the European Union and has since grown significantly.. He said many countries’ economies had improved and emphasised the need for continued collaboration across Africa, the Pacific and the

Caribbean.. “Many of our countries are still in the process of developing and the good thing is that we have this economic partnership where we can share ideas, experience and best practices.. “We are very fortunate because we do not have to reinvent the wheel.. “All we need is to duplicate successful models and implement them in our respective countries,” added the King.
