The king made the announcement during his half-time address at yesterday’s Ingwenyama Cup final between Nsingizini Hotspurs and Green Mamba at Somhlolo National Stadium.. More than 10 000 supporters attended the final,
which saw Nsingizini win 1-0 after extra time through Ayanda Gadlela’s 97th-minute strike.. Addressing the crowd, His Majesty said the attendance highlighted the need for a larger stadium in the country.. “We are happy to be gathered at the stadium today, at a day when we celebrate culture and football,” said the king.. “Judging by the numbers inside the stadium, it is crystal clear that there is a need for a new stadium.. The country
needs a stadium that will ‘swallow’ each one of us and sit comfortably inside.” The king said architects had already been tasked with beginning the planning process for the facility.. “The country needs a 40 000-seater stadium and architects need to get working so that the public who cascade to the stadium to witness such competitions get accommodated,” he said..
