Kimmel fires back as Colbert exits CBS

Kimmel says – Jimmy Kimmel opened his Wednesday monologue by telling viewers Stephen Colbert was being “pushed out” by CBS, while praising Colbert and “The Late Show” for the work of the last 11 years and urging audiences to tune in to CBS for Colbert’s final performance.

Jimmy Kimmel started his Wednesday episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live” with a message aimed straight at the people who, as he put it, pushed Stephen Colbert out.

Kimmel said his peer was being “pushed out” by CBS. adding: “I hope the people who did the pushing feel ashamed of themselves tonight. although I know they probably won’t.” He then swung to gratitude. congratulating Colbert and the team at “The Late Show” for “all the great work over the last 11 years. ” and for the work he “will continue to do in other venues.”.

Even as the two late-night shows technically competed—because their broadcasts aired at the same time on different networks—Kimmel framed their relationship as something that never felt like a rivalry. “Even though he and Colbert are technically competitors. because their shows aired at the same time on different networks. it never felt like a rivalry. Kimmel said.”.

He said he would miss the routine of having Colbert on his show, and he made a simple promise: “I always love being on Stephen’s show. I loved having him here on ours. I hope we’re able to do that again. I hope he comes to visit as many times as possible.”

Kimmel added that he would be off the air during Colbert’s final show and urged viewers to tune in on CBS for the farewell. “Don’t ever watch it again, but watch tomorrow night to wish Stephen and our friends at ‘The Late Show’ a fond farewell,” he said.

  1. Kimmel is being dramatic, like they weren’t competing too. But yeah Colbert deserves props for 11 years I guess. Don’t really care as long as the show keeps good guests.

  2. I don’t get why everyone says “pushed out” like CBS didn’t just pick a different schedule or something. Also didn’t Colbert already have health stuff? Not sure. Kimmel saying “tune in” is kinda bold when he’s literally on another channel at the same time.

  3. The whole “never felt like a rivalry” thing is funny to me because I remember watching them back to back like it was a war lol. Also the way Kimmel said “don’t ever watch it again” made me laugh but like… what does that even mean? Anyway I’ll probably catch the final episode just to see who takes over after.
