Fair City’s Kiara Noonan marks son’s treatment end

Fair City’s Kiara Noonan has opened up about how her family are dealing with life after her son’s battle with leukaemia. The Fair City star, who portrays Nikki Duff on the RTE soap , first joined the show in 2015 but took a back seat in recent years, and then when son Oscar was diagnosed with leukaemia, she devoted her time to caring for him. She rejoined Fair City in 2023, and admitted it was a big undertaking at the time, as Oscar was still
going through treatment at the time, he’s now in the maintenance portion of his care. “I was completely off screen for about seven years… and then I got an email- would I like to reprise the role? “And it was back in September 2023. And I was like, well, of course, yes. But after I sent that email, I had that instant, why am I doing this? “Because my son was going to cancer treatment at the time. “I was like, why did I say
yes? I don’t have time for this. And I just said, you know what, if it’s meant to be, it will be,” she told The Sun. She also admitted she worried frequently about the impact of her son’s illness on her other children, revealing: “I was always worried that they would become what I call glass children, you know, children that you see through because having a sick child, obviously, that’s where most of our priority goes.” “So I’ve always made sure to spend individual
time with each child”. “I’m very lucky because they’ve always we had play therapy and stuff and they’ve always understood that this is just temporary”, she added. She revealed that while being a working mum with three kids, life can be full on, her filming schedule also gives her plenty of flexibility and she loves the kids watching her chase her dreams. “I get to show the kids, no matter how hard life is, you can still get this time for yourself. It’s hard, you
have to work around it, you have to make lots of plans to do it”, she revealed. “But you can still do what you want to do, even when life is really, really hard.” The family marked a huge milestone recently when ten year old Oscar rang the bell to mark the end of his treatment. They got a limo to the hospital to mark the moment and Dublin hurler Ollie Gaffney was there to cheer on his biggest fan. Kiara revealed the family couldn’t
have been happier to mark the long awaited day. “We’re literally on an absolute high. He rang the bell with friends and family. “And what I really loved was seeing his friends here, surrounded by his friends, because a lot of times he would have spent in hospital and you worry as a parent about their social side of their life, because they do miss a lot of school at the start and they can’t be around a lot of people because they’ve no immune
system. “So to see all his friends here and all of them just happy.” Want to see more of the stories you love from RSVP ? To add RSVP as a preferred source of news on Google, simply click here
