Kerr Kriisa arrested by FBI as extradition looms

Former NCAA star Kerr Kriisa was arrested by the FBI in Lexington, Kentucky on Friday and is being extradited to West Virginia ahead of a court hearing scheduled this week, over an alleged multimillion-dollar fraud scheme tied to his time at West Virginia Univ

Kerr Kriisa spent years chasing big moments on college courts across the United States. On Friday, the spotlight shifted—FBI agents arrested the 25-year-old in Lexington, Kentucky, setting off an extradition process that could land him in West Virginia for a court hearing this week.

The case centers on an alleged multimillion-dollar fraud scheme. Kriisa is accused of involvement in that scheme during the 2023-24 season while he was at West Virginia University. No specific accusations have been revealed as the legal process moves forward.

After his arrest, Kriisa was booked into the Fayette County Detention Center, according to WKYT. The report describing the arrest also states that he is being extradited from Kentucky to West Virginia ahead of the scheduled court appearance. The Daily Mail has reached out to the FBI for confirmation of the report.

For Kriisa, the allegations collide with a career path that already carried uncertainty and high-stakes decisions. The native of Estonia began his college career in 2020 at Arizona after playing in his home nation. Over three seasons with the Wildcats, he reached the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament.

He then transferred to West Virginia for the 2023-24 season after playing three seasons at Arizona. His move was complicated in June 2023 when Kriisa debated leaving the school before playing a single game following the firing of head coach Bob Huggins due to a DUI. Assistant coach Josh Eilert managed to convince him to stay.

Kriisa hit the transfer portal again in 2024 and moved to the University of Kentucky. There, his stint ended with another Sweet 16 appearance. He finished his college career this past season at the University of Cincinnati.

Outside basketball, there were fresh plans for the summer. On June 29, it was announced that Kriisa would be playing for a professional basketball team in Estonia. At the time of publishing, his name was not listed on the team’s roster.

He was also expected to take part in The Basketball Tournament, a summer competition for non-NBA professional players, with a Kentucky Alumni team called La Familia. After his arrest, La Familia confirmed that Kriisa will not be competing with them during the tournament.

The same week that should have belonged to preparation and games now points toward court dates and custody. One story is already finished—the next is just beginning, and it will be played out under legal scrutiny rather than arena lights.
