‘Ted Lasso’ Season 4 star Jason Sudeikis on fatherhood
“Ted Lasso” stars Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt unpack the show’s exploration of fatherhood in Season 4 and why it was so important to tell now.
After three seasons full of nods to Kansas City, Apple TV’s Ted Lasso finally went to Kansas City.
Lasso, a Kansas City native who transitions from American football to soccer, is portrayed by Jason Sudeikis, who spent his formative years in Overland Park, Kansas, a Kansas City suburb. That led to authentic winks to Kansas City like a shout-out to Kansas City Royals Hall of Famer Amos Otis or Lasso and assistant Coach Beard wearing caps and shirts from various KC BBQ joints.
But Season 4, with the first episode released Wednesday, Aug. 5, sees the crew actually heading to the Paris of the Plains, with the AFC Richmond crew visiting NWSL club Kansas City Current’s CPKC Stadium.
“Everything that we’ve built, even a show like ‘Ted Lasso’ is seeing it,” Current owner Angie Long told ESPN. “So, I think it’s endorsement. But again, what it means for sport, for women’s soccer is huge.”
Sudeikis is a fan of the club and, as Lasso, wore Current gear during previous seasons of the show. But NWSL commissioner Jessica Berman said Wednesday that the Current are setting the standard, with or without a personal tie-in for the actor and sports superfan.
“I think everybody knows how proud we are of the Kansas City Current and their investment, in particular, in infrastructure, and to have that moment on display for the world to see in what has been a cultural phenomenon with Ted Lasso is really exciting,” Berman said in a conference call.
CPKC Stadium was the first privately financed stadium in the world purpose-built for women’s soccer and remains one of few facilities around the globe built with a women’s pro soccer team as its intended tenant.
The Current’s infrastructure was in the global spotlight during the 2026 men’s World Cup, as well, with the Netherlands utilizing the club’s training facility as its base camp.
