Kathy Griffin didn’t ease into it—she posted.
On Sunday, May 17, the 65-year-old comedian went “Instagram official” with her new boyfriend, sharing a photo and writing: “We’re insta official. Deal with it. (to any straight guy that is secretly hot for me, but is afraid of what his ‘bro’ friends would say).”
For Griffin, the announcement wasn’t just about romance. It was also a declaration that she’s “happy again following a devastating heartbreak.”
When one follower asked if her new boyfriend is “someone famous,” Griffin made her stance clear. “No. Not famous. Not in the entertainment industry at all.”
Another comment raised skepticism: “this better not be a psych out.” Griffin responded directly, writing, “Not a psych out, but fair question ?.”
Not everyone read it the same way.. Some fans said the boyfriend looked like Lance Armstrong.. Griffin laughed it off with a sharper edge, saying, “Ok, i’m dying at these responses.. And Lance Armstrong only wishes!. I’ll never forgive him for whatever the hell it is he did to my beloved Sheryl Crow.. My dude is not a public person in any way.”
Griffin isn’t new to the spotlight—her relationship history is closely followed—but this new chapter comes with a different premise. Her boyfriend, she says, stays out of entertainment life entirely.
That matters because Griffin has been through real turmoil in recent years.. She was previously married to marketing executive Randy Bick.. Griffin started dating Bick in 2012, broke up in November 2018, and later reconciled five months later.. They married on January 1, 2020.. In December 2023, Griffin filed for divorce, and the divorce was finalized in January 2025.
Later that year, Griffin said the divorce was brutally difficult—so much so that she compared it to cancer.. She battled stage 1 lung cancer in 2021 and had half of her left lung removed.. During that surgery. her vocal cord was permanently paralyzed by an intubation tube. and she needed vocal cord surgery to get her voice back.
“My divorce took me out,” Griffin told People. “I’m not going to lie. Some people are like, ‘I was glad I got rid of them, and I’ve never felt better.’ I was down for the count. It was harder than cancer.”
