Kat Dennings Recalls 6 Hour ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Audition with Tom Hardy, Reveals Sweet Story About What Happened After | Just Jared
Kat Dennings is opening up about her crazy audition for Mad Max: Fury Road.
The 40-year-old actress, who didn’t end up getting cast in the movie, took to social media to share her story after Michael Fassbender recently revealed his own audition story for the movie.
Kat recalled doing a chemistry read with Tom Hardy, which kind of went off the rails with what they were asked to do by an acting coach.
The actress revealed the six-hour chemistry read with Tom had them “basically” doing an acting class, where it was “the worst day of your life.”
“At one point, they had us switch roles,” Kat shared. “They had the camera and had us like running around the corner. The worst part of it, I do believe, was when the acting coach told us to say the lines without saying the lines, encouraging us to just make noises instead of the lines.”
“I was dying,” she added.
Kat then went on to praise Tom, who “really took to this exercise. Like, he was able to be extremely free and come up with really creative ways of doing these lines.”
She shared that they broke for lunch in the middle of all of that, “so that was cool,” but the best part was what happened after the audition was all over.

Kat says she didn’t have a car at the time to drive home, and once Tom found out, he offered to give her a ride and she reluctantly accepted.
“He drove me home. He was so lovely,” she shared. “We get to my house, which is my parents’ house, because I still lived at home with my parents.”
After introducing him to her mom, she went to take a nap in the converted garage where she lived.
“A few hours later, I go back into the main house,” Kat added, “and Tom Hardy is still there, having tea with my mother. And just chatting it up.”
“I will be a fan of his for life,” she said. “I think he’s a wonderful person. And my mom still talks about him.”
If you recall, Mad Max: Fury Road came out in 2015, during the time Kat was starring in 2 Broke Girls.
However, while she didn’t get cast in Mad Max, she did reprise her role as Darcy Lewis in Thor: The Dark World, which started filming only a few months after Mad Max did!
Kat later returned to Darcy in WandaVision, and again in Thor: Love and Thunder.
