In a rare interview, Karlie Kloss addressed her marriage to Joshua Kushner and the scrutiny around her ties to the Trump family—insisting she’s a Democrat and revealing she’s “never met President Trump.” She also defended how she speaks out despite the politic

Karlie Kloss didn’t dodge the question—she tightened her focus.

On Wednesday. the 33-year-old supermodel. married to Joshua Kushner since 2018. sat down for an interview with Bloomberg Originals and offered rare comments about her and her husband’s ties to the Trump family. For years. her connection to the in-laws of Ivanka Trump—Joshua Kushner’s sister-in-law—has been met with scrutiny and assumptions about whether she shares the same political views as Donald Trump.

Kloss moved to draw a clean line between relationship and identity. “I know who I am. I know the values that guide my life and the issues that I care about. So, you know, I haven’t lost sight of who I am, but also, it’s my husband’s family.”

She then reiterated that she is a Democrat, even if her marriage places her within striking political proximity. “Well, we’re sitting here in St. Louis, which is a blue dot in a red state. Since as long as I can remember. I’ve always been exposed to a lot of different political points of view. and I think that trained me for my life. You know, I’m a Democrat. It’s possible to have relationships with people who you politically don’t align with. And I think this country has always been a place for dialogue. We have to be able to talk to each other.”.

But the most pointed detail was personal and specific: Kloss said she’s never met Donald Trump. Despite being his daughter’s sister-in-law, she insisted she has “never met President Trump.”

That answer fits with her past willingness to confront politics—especially when it involves the Trump side of the family. In 2021. after supporters of Donald Trump stormed the Capitol in Washington. D.C. Kloss tweeted that “accepting the results of a legitimate democratic election is patriotic [and] refusing to do so and inciting violence is anti-American. ” and when a social media user told her to “tell” her family that instead. she responded: “I’ve tried.”.

Her positions aren’t limited to elections. Kloss has also been outspoken in support of abortion rights and access to clinics—an issue she’s raised in a political landscape where Trump is widely known to oppose abortion rights.

When asked whether she feels pressure to use her voice because of her familial connections. Kloss didn’t describe it as something she’s unable to handle. She described it as a choice she made and a path she intends to keep. “Listen, that’s life. I made the choice a long time ago to one. be with the person that I love despite any complications that came with it. Two. not to lose sight of who I am in that. and three. to just continue to stand up for and fight for the things that I care about.”.

The interview gives a clear sense of how she wants her public stance understood: not as allegiance traded away by family ties, but as values she says she’s held onto—publicly—even when those values put her closest relationships under a spotlight.
