For Karen Derrico, the split that once played out on TLC has turned into a criminal case. Las Vegas police arrested the Doubling Down with the Derricos star, and prosecutors say she directed threats of violence toward her ex-husband, Deon Derrico, and some of their children.
Prosecutors claim Karen violated a restraining order and made alleged threats that included aggravated stalking and harassment. Court documents obtained by TMZ say prosecutors also charged her with attempting to prevent a witness from testifying through threats of violence.
The case centers on messages prosecutors say Karen sent. They allege she emailed Deon multiple times. including threats to kill him and statements that she didn’t care about going to jail. Prosecutors further claim she threatened to “kill any of the kids” who sided with Deon during their split. They also allege she warned she would kill him if he showed up to a court hearing involving the restraining order he filed against her.
That restraining order was filed in April, according to the reporting. Deon also purportedly submitted a police report that included the threatening emails prosecutors claim Karen sent.
Karen’s attorney, Jess Marchese, disputes the claims. Marchese says Deon allegedly sent the threatening messages to himself and tried to pin them on Karen. Marchese also told TMZ that his team is working with tech experts to prove Deon actually wrote the messages. Karen continues to maintain her innocence, saying she would never threaten or harm her children. Marchese added that Karen is out on a $2,000 bond and is wearing an ankle monitor.
The timeline around their family’s life change is already familiar to longtime viewers. Karen and Deon finalized their divorce in June 2024. Around that time. Karen posted on Instagram with an update for fans. saying the kids were doing “as good as they can be” as they adjusted to the major transition. She said she was focusing on self-care while navigating the new co-parenting journey.
