Tony-nominated actor Josh Gad is set to join the star-studded Ocean’s Eleven prequel led by Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper, with filming reportedly set to begin soon and a June 25, 2027 theatrical release.
Josh Gad is stepping into a fresh slice of the Ocean’s world.
On Wednesday, July 1, Variety announced the 45-year-old Tony-nominated actor has joined the cast of the upcoming Ocean’s Eleven prequel, a project led by Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper.
Robbie and Cooper aren’t just attached as stars. Cooper is directing the film, producing it with Margot, and writing the screenplay. The cast also includes Wagner Moura and Monica Barbaro.
For now, the movie’s plot details are being kept under wraps. Still, Robbie offered a peek during a recent appearance at the 2026 CinemaCon presentation this spring. She described the story as one that traces what shaped Danny Ocean before he ever set foot in Vegas—through the people who taught him everything he knows: “his parents.”.
Robbie tied that idea directly to the legacy of Ocean’s 11, referencing the ringleader of the Las Vegas casino caper from 1960’s Ocean’s 11, which starred Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Joey Bishop, Peter Lawford and Dean Martin.
Then she added another specific destination and moment for the new movie’s heist: Robbie said the audience will “see them in their prime,” pulling off an epic heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.
Filming is scheduled to kick off soon, and the prequel is currently set for a theatrical release on June 25, 2027.
The Ocean’s plans don’t stop there. A fourth installment featuring the original cast—George, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Don Cheadle and Casey Affleck—is also in the works. Ocean’s 14 hopes to begin filming this October.

Josh Gad in Ocean’s?? wow so Danny Ocean is… like born now? Idk I’m confused but I’m watching.
So it’s a prequel but they’re doing Danny Ocean backstory through his parents, right. Didn’t realize parents were like casino geniuses lol. Also Monaco Grand Prix heist sounds kinda like Fast and Furious with money.
Wait I thought Ocean’s 11 prequel already happened? Like wasn’t there one with the younger cast or am I mixing it up with something else. If it’s about his parents though that’s actually interesting, but I’m not sure why Frank Sinatra is being referenced unless it’s gonna be some crossover.
Filming soon and June 25, 2027… okay that’s like forever away. Between this and Ocean’s 14 in October, they’re just milking it until it’s dust. I don’t get why they need Josh Gad specifically either, like his vibe doesn’t scream heist to me, but maybe that’s the point. Also Margot Robbie saying “in their prime” at Monaco Grand Prix… didn’t Monaco already happen in like every movie ever?
