Local news outlets, citing police sources, said Joniah Walker—then 15 years old—has been found safe. Police only confirmed that she was safe, and it wasn’t immediately clear where she was found or how she was discovered.
The disappearance of Joniah Walker had already been the subject of a missing child alert connected with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. The organization had been asking for help locating the Milwaukee teenager, saying she disappeared from her home on June 23. Walker was last seen on the north side of Milwaukee. Her mother was at work when Walker disappeared, and her father was expected to pick her up to take her to get a work permit. Walker’s parents reported her missing and began looking for her.
Phone records later showed that Walker tried calling her therapist at 3:27 p.m., and sent her therapist a text later that night. Her mother said those messages indicated Walker had run away from home.
