He didn’t show up by accident. Not this time.
John Wick: Chapter 5 is now officially real, confirmed at CinemaCon in 2025 after months of teasing that stretched through 2024. The franchise that began with a single promise of vengeance is moving into its next chapter—and this one comes with the clearest signal yet that Keanu Reeves will be back.
Lionsgate is bringing Reeves as the legendary assassin, with director Chad Stahelski returning to helm the film. The stakes feel higher because Chapter 4 ended with John Wick appearing to meet his end—yet the story is set to continue anyway.
The newest information doesn’t come in a release date or a calendar stamp. It comes in something more frustrating for fans: hesitation around timing. Lionsgate boss Adam Fogelson. speaking during an interview. said there are “a lot of steps. so I wouldn’t want to put a timeline on it.” He added that Chad Stahelski and Keanu Reeves “appear to have landed on something they’re excited about. ” and that “now we’ll see.”.
That “catch” — no firm timeline — lands differently when you remember the franchise’s scale. John Wick isn’t just a run of mainline films anymore. There are four mainline movies, a feature spin-off film, and even a TV show under its belt. With Chapter 5 confirmed. it’s clear the series is far from over. but the pace of what comes next remains deliberately unclear.
Beyond Chapter 5, the wider John Wick universe continues to fill out. The next John Wick movie is centered on the character first introduced in Chapter 4. Caine. with star Donnie Yen confirmed to reprise the role and even directed the spin-off. Separate from the live-action future. a John Wick animated series is confirmed to be in development at Lionsgate. but very little is known about the project other than it’s coming soon.
One thing is already known about what fans can expect from the franchise machine: busy development. multiple streams of storytelling. and a creative team that keeps finding ways to move the world forward. For now. Fogelson’s words are the clearest official checkpoint—there are steps. and they’re not rushing to put a timeline on them.
Somewhere between that patience and the promise of Reeves’ return, the real question is how quickly John Wick’s story can outrun its own ending. Stahelski is back. Keanu Reeves is confirmed. And Lionsgate is telling everyone, quietly and plainly, not to expect a date yet.

So it’s confirmed but no date… cool cool cool 🙄
I swear they said John Wick was dead like in the last one lol. Now they’re just gonna resurrect him again? Also CinemaCon 2025 like that’s forever away.
A lot of steps means they’re probably still figuring out the plot and whether Keanu wants to come back. Or maybe they lost the script? I don’t get why they won’t just put a timeline, unless they’re scared it’ll flop.
John Wick universe is getting outta hand already, there’s like a TV show, animated thing, and spin-offs… Next thing you know they’ll be doing a cartoon where he fights ghosts. But I mean, I’m still gonna watch it. The “no timeline” part makes it sound like they’re dragging it out on purpose.
