John Oliver Brings Soap Chaos to General Hospital

John Oliver is set to appear on ABC’s “General Hospital” for a three-episode arc on July 2, 3 and 6, nearly four months after he publicly begged soap operas for a “ridiculous” cameo on “Last Week Tonight.”
John Oliver’s soap opera pitch has finally made its way to Port Charles.
The HBO late-night host will appear on ABC’s “General Hospital” later this week for a three-episode arc, landing in a “significant” guest role on July 2, 3 and 6. Oliver revealed the casting news during Sunday night’s “Last Week Tonight.”
The timing feels like a payoff—one Oliver helped set in motion. Nearly four months earlier, on March 8, the comedian used his platform to go straight at soap opera culture. He told the soap operas to “write me a role and I’ll be on your set so fast it’ll make your head spin. ” then laid out his “few conditions”: he didn’t want to play himself. he wanted his character’s name to be ridiculous. and he hoped for something “juicy. ” like “murder or slapping or being slapped” or being “someone’s long-lost something.” He also wanted a “dramatic close-up” of his face—while promising. “in return. trust me. I will give my all to this performance.”.
“General Hospital” executive producer Frank Valentini didn’t hesitate to say yes. calling Oliver “everything you’d hope he’d be: prepared. professional. funny and genuinely kind to everyone on set.” Valentini added that Oliver “plays an integral character in the story. ” and said he “can’t wait for fans to see who he crosses paths within Port Charles.”.
Oliver, for his part, sounded thrilled by the fit. “‘General Hospital’ was everything I hoped it would be. It’s a true honor to be a small stain on the history of this illustrious show.”
The coincidence between Oliver’s March 8 plea and his July 2, 3 and 6 arrival makes the message hard to miss: when a comedian throws down a gauntlet, sometimes the soap really does pick it up.
“General Hospital” airs weekdays before streaming on Hulu. “Last Week Tonight” airs Sundays on HBO and HBO Max.

So he’s gonna be like… a soap villain? Got it.
I saw the headline and thought they meant actual soap (like washing chaos)?? But I guess John Oliver is just doing a cameo on General Hospital which is weirdly fitting.
Wait, isn’t this just him playing himself? The article literally says he didn’t want to, but then the whole thing sounds like him anyway. Also “Port Charles” sounds made up, like who even names a city that.
If he wants “ridiculous” names and “juicy” drama, then why does it feel like the show is the one being messy lol. I don’t even watch General Hospital like ever, but I might tune in for the slapping/murder close-up thing because that sounds… intense? Also HBO to Hulu pipeline is confusing to me, like is it all on Hulu now or no?
