Joe Rogan didn’t just argue with the idea of a UFC fight at the White House. Now he’s set to be part of the broadcast.

Rogan will join the on-air commentary team for the UFC’s White House event on June 14, MMA Junkie reported, citing a person with knowledge of the plans. The fight night, UFC Freedom 250, is scheduled for the South Lawn and will be livestreamed by Paramount+.

The timing lands after Rogan’s sharp public criticism. Late last month, he called the event a “gimmick” on his podcast, saying, “It doesn’t seem like a wise idea,” adding, “It’s kind of a gimmick.” He later returned to the theme, suggesting the whole concept was questionable.

His concern wasn’t abstract. Rogan pointed to what he described as the conditions fighters would face—extreme heat and the possibility of bugs—during UFC Freedom 250. He said. “I don’t like the idea of fighting outside at all. ” explaining. “There are too many problems with it. In June, in D.C., we looked it up last year – the same day was 100 degrees.”.

Dana White. the UFC CEO. responded directly to the criticism. pushing back on Rogan’s use of the word “gimmick.” White told Forbes. “Whatever Joe Rogan’s opinions are – he said something crazy like. ‘It seems like a gimmick.’” White then challenged the framing: “I mean. what does a gimmick mean?. It’s a real fight, with real stakes. …” He argued that nothing about the event should be viewed as staged. “When you talk about a gimmick, there’s absolutely nothing gimmicky about this event,” White said. “We’re celebrating 250 years of America. we’re going to have all the representatives of the military there. every fight on that card means something with who wins or loses that night. and you know. like the most historical sporting event in American history. Far from a gimmick.”.

White also linked Rogan’s role to a specific part of the night: broadcast breakdown. In that same interview. White said he’s good friends with Rogan and called him “a vital part of the broadcast. ” describing him as someone “best at breaking down what you’re seeing while it’s happening” for viewers who may be watching for the first time.

That message follows a visible shift in Rogan’s own tone in recent comments. He appeared to backtrack. saying. “I mean. there’s no more American thing than having a UFC fight on the White House lawn. ” and calling it “It’s so America. It’s so Trump. It’s so crazy. You know what I mean?. A UFC fight on the White House lawn is bananas.”.

The sequence of events is hard to miss: Rogan criticized the outside setting and the risks of June heat and bugs, then said he couldn’t see the idea as a “wise” one—only to later frame the White House location as “so America” and, now, to take a seat on the broadcast team for June 14.

  1. He called it a gimmick and now he’s literally joining the broadcast team… that’s peak fake it til you make it lol. Also bugs in DC in June sounds awful, like why are they even doing this.

  2. Not sure I get how this is fair to the fighters? Like if Rogan said it’s 100 degrees the same day last year then wouldn’t UFC just cancel or move it? But Dana White says it’s “real” not a gimmick—does that mean the heat and insects are also “real” and they just don’t care? Kinda seems like PR for the White House more than anything.

  3. I’m sorry but putting an MMA show at the White House is just… weird. Like June heat, bugs, and a livestream on Paramount+?? They should’ve picked indoors. Also Joe Rogan always talks like he’s above the drama but then he shows up anyway, so idk if he was really worried or just trying to get attention. Freedom 250 sounds like a marketing thing too, not like an actual event.
