Joanna Gaines tours messy Waco attic, urges clean-outs

Joanna Gaines leaned into view from behind a wall in her Waco, Texas, attic, boxes stacked around her like a backdrop for a confession. The moment felt oddly familiar—messy, unpolished, and real—because that was the point.
On Tuesday, June 30, the “Fixer Upper” star, 48, shared an Instagram Reel that began with a simple greeting: “Hi everyone, I’m Joanna Gaines. Welcome to my attic,” followed by a laugh as she added, “because I’m very proud of my attic.”
Then she explained why she was there, and why the footage had to be unfiltered. “We are shooting some rooms in the house today, which has forced me to hide and face the reality that I have a problem,” she said. “But I want to show you some of my favorite things in here. A walk down memory lane.”
The tour started with a trip back to her earliest business days. Gaines held up a cake plate stand and told followers. “When I used to do my little shop on Bosque. you guys. this was the stuff I would sell.” She said she collected white dinnerware and made cake plate stands out of it—calling it “a big seller at Magnolia. circa 2005.”.
Next came something practical enough to feel like it belonged in the same family of stories as the attic itself: a walking boot. “This, just in case,” she joked. “When you have five kids you never know when you’re going to need the boot. So not letting go of the boot.”
Gaines and her husband, Chip, 51, have five children together: sons Drake, 21, Duke, 18, and Crew, 8, as well as daughters Ella, 19, and Emmie, 16.
The attic browse turned playful when she pulled out a wig-filled surprise. Gaines lifted a brown hairpiece and said, “So this is from my first collection of wigs. And this one was a hit,” before admitting, “I have no idea why there is a wig up here but I promise it’s not mine.”
She wrapped up with a candid admission and a service message aimed squarely at the season. “I’m on my own today guys, and I’m feeling sick to my stomach and I’m regretting some choices,” Gaines said. “And I’m also here to say, clean your attics, folks. It’s summertime.”
Her comments section quickly filled with people recognizing the same clutter and the same logic—saving things “just in case. ” forgetting what’s up there. and suddenly deciding it all needs to go. One follower wrote. “‘Registered for these. I’ve never once used these’ is the most relatable thing on the internet today.” Another cheered. “We all have the same attic!. Yay!”.
(From her first collection of wigs to a walking boot kept for five kids, Gaines’ point landed the way messy homes often do: not as a perfect before-and-after, but as an honest look at the stuff that gathers when life keeps moving.)

Why is she filming instead of cleaning lol
She said she has a problem? Like hoarding? I mean I get it though, attics always end up chaos. Also Bosque?? That sounds like a place I’ve never heard of but now I’m curious.
Wait so she was “hiding” while filming rooms and then she tours the attic… that doesn’t sound like hiding, that sounds like content. And the white dinnerware/cake plate stands, wasn’t that like for a display? People reuse stuff and suddenly it’s a big seller? Idk man.
This feels relatable but also kind of rich-person relatable. Like yeah I have a mess too but she’s got Chip and five kids and an entire attic tour like it’s a therapy session. “In case” walking boot made me laugh though, because apparently she just keeps stuff for every possible situation. Didn’t she have a cleaner house before Fixer Upper?? Maybe they just moved the mess up into the attic on purpose.
