Jimmy Kimmel treated Donald Trump’s newest nickname for liberals like it deserved a punchline exam—especially when Trump framed the insult as something he came up with himself.
During Tuesday’s monologue for “Jimmy Kimmel Live!. ” the late-night host roasted the president for being “particularly excited” about the “Dumocrats” dig. saying Trump believes he invented it even though it appeared on “The Simpsons” in 1994. Kimmel didn’t let it rest there. He followed the jab by acting as if Trump was “workshopping a whole new bit” about the name.
Kimmel then played out what Trump was saying onstage. with “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” editors cutting to footage of the president trying out the nickname in front of a rally crowd. In that segment. Trump explained. “And I watched what he was saying and what the horrible things he was saying and I said. ‘He’s a dumb guy.’ I said. ‘Wait a minute. He’s a Dumocrat.’ That’s how I got the name. You take the E out. You don’t use the B. A lot of people don’t know dumb has a B in it.”.
Trump continued, laying out the spelling like it was part of the performance: “Actually, you don’t need it. You discard the B. But you take the E out and you replace it with a U. They’re dumb. They are Dumocrats.”
Kimmel responded by grabbing a pen and pad on camera. jokingly asking Trump to “run us through that one more time.” As the explanation played again. he pretended to take notes. adding. “Okay. All right. I think I got it. You know, a lot of people don’t know dumb has a B in it. And that crowd he’s in front of, I think he’s right, actually.”.
He drove the joke one more step with a jab about the wider audience, saying, “I have a feeling a lot of them don’t know there’s a B in the word baby.”
The nickname has been popping up repeatedly in Trump’s recent comments. including in a Memorial Day post on Truth Social Monday. In the post. Trump wrote. “Happy Memorial Day to all. including the Dumocrats who disrespect our military and all of the tremendous success that has had over the last year. God bless those that have made the ultimate sacrifice. I love you all.”.
That message set Kimmel off again, prompting one more line as he wrapped the bit: “No one puts the me in Memorial Day like Donald J. Trump.”
