“The Suite Life of Zack & Cody” co-creator Jim Geoghan has died.
The producer died Sunday, Sept. 6, in Los Angeles, his representative confirmed to USA TODAY on Sept. 8. He was 79 years old.
A cause of death has not yet been released.
Geoghan is best known for serving as co-creator and executive producer on the Disney Channel’s beloved sitcom “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody,” which launched the careers of Cole and Dylan Sprouse, Ashley Tisdale, Brenda Song and more.
The series ran for three seasons from 2005 to 2008 and followed the Sprouse brothers as the titular twins living in a New York City hotel owned by the family of Song’s London Tipton. The spinoff “The Suite Life on Deck” then ran for three more seasons, following Zack and Cody aboard a cruise ship where they attended high school, until the franchise’s conclusion in 2011.
During that time, Geoghan earned two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Children’s Program.
Geoghan began his career in the early 1970s performing in popular New York comedy clubs like The Bitter End, Catch A Rising Star and The Bottom Line. He went on to become a television writer and moved to Los Angeles with his wife Annie, to whom he was married for 45 years before his death.
In addition to “Suite Life,” some of Geoghan’s most notable writing gigs were for “Three’s Company,” “Sanford,” “Too Close For Comfort,” “The Facts of Life” and “The Van Dyke Show.” Throughout the ’80s, he also worked on “Silver Spoons” and “It’s Garry Shandling’s Show.”
His career extended to the stage as well, with his play “Only Kidding” running for 500 performances and “Light Sensitive” for more than 40.
Geoghan is survived by his wife and daughter.
