Jesse Watters Turns Trump Knicks Boos Into Dems Jab

Fox News host Jesse Watters said boos that greeted President Donald Trump at an NBA Finals game were “mixed,” and he pivoted into a swipe at Democrats—prompting pushback online amid attention to Trump’s Madison Square Garden appearance and the Knicks’ upset lo

Jesse Watters looked at the boos that followed President Donald Trump at Madison Square Garden on Monday and made them the start of a political argument.

On Tuesday, the Fox News host insisted the crowd reaction wasn’t what many saw. “It was a great game,” Watters said. “And Trump didn’t lose it for them. It was obviously the refs, because the league wants this thing to go seven for financial reasons. … Trump, the reaction was mixed. I would say it was passionate. I did hear some boos.”.

He then tried to frame the noise around Trump as a kind of cultural misunderstanding. “But I mean, it’s an NBA game. That’s the fanbase. It’s like if [former Vice President] Kamala [Harris] went to a Dallas Cowboys game, how would that sound?. At least he goes to games. Democrats don’t even go to games. They go to pride parades.”.

Watters’ timing and phrasing landed hard with critics because the story around Democrats and “pride” in New York isn’t theoretical. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s Democratic campaign focused on affordability for all residents. and he attended both the city’s Pride March last year and Monday’s game.

The backdrop for Monday’s boos was already charged. The New York Knicks entered the NBA Finals on a historic 13-game playoff winning streak and had built raucous anticipation for Game 3 at Madison Square Garden. Then the San Antonio Spurs won in an upset many people had blamed on Trump’s attendance.

Those boos weren’t hypothetical either. Trump created commotion on and off the court: no sitting president has ever attended an NBA Finals game. and he was booed both during his arrival and inside the arena. The president’s presence also required added security. According to a statement from the Knicks on Saturday. fans were asked to arrive two hours early to go through “TSA-style security.” The appearance led to the cancellation of a free watch party that had been planned outside the arena.

Watters’ insistence that the reaction was “mixed” drew immediate disbelief from viewers. One user on X wrote. “Once again telling guys not to believe what our eyes see and our ears hear. ” while another commenter said: “Watters falling all over himself to protect the orange blob. If the man had an original thought his head would blow up.”.

The Knicks did lose on Monday, with the Spurs taking a 115-111 victory. The upset win gave the series a major jolt, but New York still has a chance to respond: the Knicks currently lead the seven-game series 2-1, and Game 4 is set for Wednesday night.

For many people, the question hanging over the arena isn’t just who won Game 3. It’s why Trump’s presence—unprecedented at this stage of the NBA—became a kind of lightning rod that pulled politics into a place where fans expected pure sport. Watters, for his part, kept steering the moment toward Democrats.

Watters has shown before that hyperbole doesn’t wait for verification. He previously praised U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for its “amazing” facilities—and “free healthcare.” On Monday night in New York. he took the sound of boos and treated it like a political prop instead of a direct reaction—leaving viewers to decide whether the crowd was. in fact. “mixed.”.

  1. So he’s like “mixed boos” but also “it was the refs”?? That’s not how it works. And the whole Pride parades thing is just… idk, reaching hard.

  2. Wait I thought Trump went there to support the Knicks, not start a whole political argument. Also “financial reasons”?? League wants it to go seven games? That sounds made up but maybe. People are booing the Spurs? Or Trump? Or the mayor? It’s confusing.

  3. Jesse Watters really can’t let anything be sports. If Democrats “don’t go to games” then why are there so many pics of politicians at Knicks games lol. And comparing Kamala to a Cowboys game like that makes sense… it doesn’t. Pride parades and affordability are not the same thing and it’s weird he mixed it together.
