James Carville Thinks GOP’s Midterms Convention Could Have A Very Unintended Consequence

Longtime Democratic strategist James Carville on Wednesday explained why he believes the GOP’s first-ever midterm convention — dubbed “Trump-a-palooza” because of Donald Trump’s heavy involvement in the event — could spectacularly backfire on Republicans at the ballot box in November.

Appearing on “The Daily Beast Podcast,” Carville suggested that no one in the GOP actually stands to benefit from the two-day event in Dallas next week.

Carville, a years-long critic of Trump, has predicted that Trump will walk away from the White House next year following a drubbing in the fall, and described the convention as a waste of funds and a “giant money-making operation,” pointing to reports that photo opportunities with the president will apparently cost $88,600.

“The stupidest shit I hear is we shouldn’t give them platforms,” Carville said of reporting on the convention, before urging journalists to “cover this convention wall to wall” because “it’s the most beneficial thing we got going.”

He added, “Let people know about it. You’re not gonna come up with any better news that’s gonna excite and irritate and turn out more Democrats.”
