Jack Antonoff teases Dylan Dreyer as viral mishap

On the May 22 episode of the Today Show, Dylan Dreyer didn’t have time to wonder what the internet would do with her day.
After Dreyer finished her weather report, musician Jack Antonoff leaned into the moment with a grin and a jab. “I like the weather stuff. I like when you mess up and it goes viral, you didn’t do it,” he said to Dylan.
Dreyer looked caught off guard, pushing back in real time. “I did not mess up, I did not want that to go viral,” she replied. Laura Jarrett jumped in quickly, adding, “She’s a pro.”
Antonoff wasn’t done. He kept questioning Dreyer about whether she thinks about those on-air slip-ups—especially the ones that end up shared online. “Do you think about that [messing up],” he asked. Dreyer answered with what she prefers to see spread. “My favorite stuff is news clips that go viral.”
The playful interrogation then shifted to Craig Melvin. Antonoff asked whether Melvin had experienced many live on-air moments that later went viral on social media. Melvin tried to keep the segment moving. replying. “I have many. we should probably go to the weather. ” as he attempted to sidestep the question.
That weather reset mattered, because the episode itself had already required quick coverage changes. Dreyer, who typically presents the Third Hour of Today, stepped in for Carson Daly for the Second Hour. She also had to deliver the Pop Start roundup during the episode.
Craig teased the handoff in front of viewers: “I’m going to talk for a few seconds so you can catch your breath and get ready for Pop Start.” Laura added, “She’s been doing stretches,” as Dreyer prepared to go live.
Dreyer responded with a hint of her own fatigue and her focus on what the show had lined up. “I know, I wish Carson was here as there’s a lot of music,” she said, as Laura encouraged her with, “You got this.”
Outside of Today, Dreyer also builds a second platform with her podcast. She hosts The Parent Chat with Dylan Dreyer, in conjunction with Today. The show is described as a space for “Glass Half Full fans” to get the trailer and then more: Dreyer as “TODAY’s candid third hour host. ” and also “a mom of 3 boys in New York City” navigating the hardest parts of raising children—trying “to figure out the big stuff: how to raise kind. confident. resilient kids and keep her sanity along the way.” The description adds that. like every parent. she sometimes needs help. and that on The Parent Chat she brings in reinforcements—from parenting experts to “fellow working moms.”.
The episode carried its own behind-the-scenes momentum. Craig joined as a regular host on the Today Show following Hoda Kotb’s departure in January 2025. He had been part of the team for years, but his permanent position became a major step that elevated his career.
Still, when Jack Antonoff pointed toward “messing up and it goes viral,” it landed hardest on the person standing right in front of the camera—Dreyer—who was clear that the day wasn’t built on a mistake. In her words, she “did not mess up.”

So wait did she actually mess up the weather or was he just roasting her for fun?
Honestly these morning shows are chaos on purpose. Like the second you go live it’s bound to get clipped and then everyone acts shocked. Dylan looked stressed for a second lol.
Jack Antonoff is making it sound like she “did it” but she’s literally saying she didn’t mess up? Confusing. Also I swear viral clips are always staged now, like they WANT it to trend. That’s probably why she said she likes viral news clips…
I don’t even watch Today but I saw the headline and I’m like omg Dylan messed up again 😂 But then the article says she stepped in for someone and had to do extra stuff, so that makes more sense. Still though Antonoff asking “do you think about messing up” is kinda rude if she’s trying to do her job. Also the Craig Melvin part got me lost—he was like go to the weather like the weather is always the escape route.
