J.Lo and Brett Goldstein’s Office Romance Drops June 5

Jennifer Lopez and Ted Lasso’s Brett Goldstein team up for the rom-com Office Romance—written with her in mind. The film streams exclusively on Netflix on June 5, 2026, featuring a cast that includes Betty Gilpin, Amy Sedaris, Tony Hale, Bradley Whitford, and

Jennifer Lopez didn’t just step into another romantic comedy—she says she was surprised by the way it was built for her.

In a conversation ahead of the release of Office Romance. Brett Goldstein explained that the movie’s setup came directly from the creative goal of making an “old-school rom-com. ” built around the kind of performer they wanted to headline it. “So, it was me and Joe Kelly [who] wrote it, and we were on a train,” Goldstein said. He described writing while working on Ted Lasso and traveling from Manchester to London. saying they were thinking about what they wanted to make together.

Goldstein said the question became simple: “Who’s the best rom-com actor?”—and the answer, he said, was Jennifer Lopez. “And that was it, that was why. We wanted to make the best J.Lo rom-com.”

Lopez’s reaction, she said, was shock in the best way. “Jennifer was ‘really surprised’ about that. ” the film’s news comes with her words: she said it’s common to hear that people “will write something and then be like ‘OK. she’d be great for that.’ But to write it specifically with you in mind is a whole different thing and it was very flattering. ” she added.

The movie—streaming exclusively on Netflix on June 5, 2026—centers on Lopez and Goldstein as workaholic coworkers who can’t keep their feelings strictly professional. They play Jackie Cruz and Daniel Blanchflower, respectively, and their workplace attraction turns into “a secret office fling.”

Office Romance also leans on a broader ensemble. Betty Gilpin appears as Sydney, Amy Sedaris as Julie Schatz, Tony Hale as George Zein, and Bradley Whitford as Peter Vance. Edward James Olmos plays Captain Jack Cruz, Rick Hoffman plays Carl Gunderson, and Jodie Whittaker plays Lizzy.

The story is the kind of workplace romance that thrives on friction—loyalty to the job, chaos in private—and with Goldstein writing the film “with her in mind,” Lopez’s presence doesn’t feel like casting by default. It feels like the point.

Office Romance will be available to stream exclusively on Netflix on June 5, 2026.

  1. So they wrote it for her on a train?? That feels like fanfic energy lol. Hopefully it’s actually funny and not just “workplace flirting” for 2 hours.

  2. Wait… Brett Goldstein is from Ted Lasso but he’s writing a movie “with her in mind” so like that means J.Lo wrote it too? Or she’s gonna be the main character in everything now? Netflix is wild.

  3. I don’t even watch Ted Lasso and I still feel like I’m gonna watch this? The office fling secret thing sounds the same as everything else though. Also Betty Gilpin being in it is the only reason I’d give it a chance, because she’s usually great. June 5 can’t come fast enough I guess, even though I’m skeptical.
