Isak shines as Havertz, Diomande earn Day 4 stars

Day 4 of the World Cup brought a flood of goals across North America, and three standout performers—Kai Havertz, Yan Diomande, and Alexander Isak—were selected as the day’s top stars.

The World Cup doesn’t ease up on momentum—Day 4 kept the tournament in constant motion. with teams scoring goals across North America in a day described as an attacking explosion. Three of the four games on the slate produced four or more goals. and amid that pace. one name. one club journey. and one return to form rose above the rest.

Kai Havertz earned the bronze star for Germany. Not long ago. Havertz was scoring in the Champions League Final for Arsenal. and now he’s carried that sharpness into the World Cup. Even though Curaçao is described as one of the weaker teams in the competition. the day mattered for Havertz anyway: after a two-goal effort. he couldn’t be left off the podium for Day 4.

There’s also a sharper edge to why Germany may lean on him. With young prodigal talent Lennart Karl out of the World Cup due to a last-minute injury, Havertz is set to be pushed toward the forefront of the German team if they want a deep run.

The silver star went to Yan Diomande of the Ivory Coast. His path to this moment has been anything but direct. Diomande moved to the United States five years ago with the hope of a breakthrough as an athlete. then made a name for himself as a high schooler. That performance drew attention from DME Academy in Florida. From there, he made his way to Spain, and last year he reached RB Leipzig.

Now 19. Diomande is described as a prodigy after a transformational season in Germany—and the World Cup is already testing his status against top quality opposition. In a match against one of the best defenses in the world in Ecuador. he made them look slow and flatfooted. and the description doesn’t mince words: he was still making them look “silly” after 90 minutes of running.

The gold star belonged to Alexander Isak of Sweden. Before the tournament. pessimism hovered around Isak and the Swedish team. and there was a major reason: Isak went to Liverpool for $150 million but barely played this most recent campaign due to injury. By Sunday night, though, the doubts were met head-on. Isak delivered what’s described as one of the best performances thus far in the tournament, torching Tunisia.

Isak’s showing is framed as proof—proof of his health. proof of his motivation status. and proof that he’s the kind of player worth the $150 million Liverpool paid. With Sweden and the Ivory Coast both shown as teams with what it takes to “do some damage” at this World Cup. Day 4’s stars don’t just represent good games. They point toward who might set the tone next as the tournament keeps accelerating.
