Iran accuses the US of killing five civilians in Strait of Hormuz attacks, amid rising fears after “Project Freedom.”
A fresh accusation is inflaming already tense waters in the Strait of Hormuz, with Iran saying the United States killed five civilians during attacks on passenger boats.
Misryoum reports that Iran’s claim, made on Tuesday, contradicts US statements that the strikes targeted Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) vessels. Iran said its forces attacked passenger craft in the waterway instead, arguing the US account did not reflect what happened.
Iran said the US operation, later described by US President Donald Trump as “Project Freedom,” disrupted a fragile ceasefire reached on April 8 and revived fears of renewed conflict.. The US has described sinking or targeting IRGC boats that it said were interfering with a mission escorting ships out of the strait.

Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB quoted an unnamed Iranian military commander saying Tehran launched an investigation after the US claim. The investigation, according to the commander, found that US forces attacked two small boats carrying people traveling from Khasab on Oman’s coast toward Iran.
Iran said the boats were destroyed and that five civilian passengers were killed. The commander added that the US “must be held accountable for their crime,” while there was no immediate response from the US military.
Meanwhile, Misryoum notes that the clash comes as Trump seeks to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime route that Iran has effectively restricted after earlier attacks on February 28. Iran has also emphasized maintaining control of the strait and collecting transit fees as compensation.

At the same time, the US said two US-flagged ships transited the strait on Monday with support from guided-missile destroyers, while Iran’s IRGC denied the US account as false.. Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, also said the events in Hormuz showed there is “no military solution” to the political crisis, and argued that peace talks were progressing.
