For a lot of people, Instagram isn’t just where they post photos—it’s where their grid has to look right.

Now Instagram is finally giving users a way to control that layout. The Meta-owned app has started rolling out the ability to rearrange your grid posts, almost a year after Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced the feature was coming.

Meta says the rollout can work regardless of when you made your posts, and it’s reaching people globally starting today. “We know this is long overdue, but we wanted to take the time to get it right,” Meta told USA Today.

The change comes after years of frustration for anyone tired of seeing their profile snap back into chronological order. The ability to rearrange posts has been one of the app’s most requested features, and Meta had been planning to introduce it even before Mosseri’s announcement last year.

Long before Instagram confirmed anything, app reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi discovered an “edit grid” option inside the Instagram app in 2022—an early hint that tools for rearranging the grid had been in the system long before most users could touch them.

When the update appears on your account, the process is straightforward. Head to your profile, long press any post, and you’ll see options alongside “Pin to main grid” and “Archive.” The new option—“Reorder grid”—opens a window where you can drag posts into the arrangement you want.

Instagram also makes one behavior clear: if you pin a post, it stays at the top of your profile. In the “Reorder grid” window, pinned posts are blacked out, meaning the pinned position won’t be moved while you’re dragging other tiles around.

For anyone who’s been waiting to build a specific aesthetic, the point is simple: your grid can finally be edited the way you want, not the way the feed decides.

  1. So do we have to pay or is it automatic? My cousin said you can only do it on business accounts but idk if that’s true.

  2. Wait I thought Instagram already let you move posts?? Like there was some trick where you could pin stuff and it sort of rearranged. Also if pinned posts get blacked out doesn’t that mean they’ll move anyway??

  3. This is great but Instagram is still deleting reach for no reason lol. I don’t even care about grid aesthetics if the algorithm is gonna bury me. Still, the “reorder grid” option… I’m gonna check it but I probably won’t understand how the drag thing works.
