A family tragedy unfolded in Salinas, Puerto Rico, when a 5-year-old girl drowned in a pool on Sunday, June 7—and by days later, her uncle, influencer and musician Michael Flores, had publicly confirmed the death.
Puerto Rico Police’s Guayama Command spokesperson said Laia Nazaret died after the drowning incident on Sunday, June 7, in Salinas. The confirmation came to People on Thursday, June 11. Police did not identify the child by name. but Flores. 27. confirmed it was his niece in a statement shared via Facebook.
The translated statement, which Flores’ manager signed and dated Tuesday, June 9, began: “With deep sorrow, and on behalf of the artist Michael Flores and his family, we confirm the passing of little Laia Nazaret this past Sunday.”
“There are no words to describe the void left by her departure, nor the pain the entire family is enduring at this time,” the statement added. It continued that Flores and his family are in mourning while “the authorities are conducting the necessary investigation.”
Out of respect for the process. the statement asked for privacy and urged people to avoid “speculation and the dissemination of unconfirmed information” as the matter follows its official course. Flores’ manager later concluded with a message of thanks: “We sincerely appreciate the expressions of affection. prayers. and support that the artist and his family have received from colleagues. friends and the general public.”.
“Any further information will be shared, in due course, exclusively through the artist’s official channels and this office,” the manager wrote. “We pray to God for strength for the family and eternal rest for Laia.”
The Guayama Command spokesperson said Nazaret drowned while Flores was allegedly filming a music video. The child was taken to Sur Medical Center in Salinas by a family member, and police are speaking to members of the child’s family as part of the investigation into her death.
