Indiana halts $5 Space Invaders scratch-off after prize mixup

The Hoosier Lottery suspended sales of its newly launched $5 Space Invaders Cash Invasion scratch-off game after players reported scanner results that didn’t match what their tickets showed, sparking anger and calls for clarification.

For some Indiana players, it started with a simple scan—and ended with a jolt.

The Hoosier Lottery has suspended sales of its new $5 Space Invaders Cash Invasion scratch-off game after reports that some players were being told they had won significantly different amounts than those indicated on their tickets. The lottery confirmed the halt after the game was recently launched on June 2.

Jared Bond, a spokesperson for the Hoosier Lottery, said the lottery “became aware of a technical issue” with the scratch-off. In a statement, he said the lottery stopped sales “to ensure the game experience upholds the integrity we strive to provide our players.”

The suspension comes as frustration spreads among players who felt misled at the moment they expected a clear result. For many, the misunderstanding isn’t just about money—it’s about trust in the prize itself.

Mike Fields, an Indiana resident, told FOX59 that he believed he had won a $100,000 prize after purchasing four of the new scratch-off tickets. A scanner later indicated the ticket was worth only $20, according to a Facebook post by FOX59 anchor Angela Ganote.

Ganote’s post also described Fields’ experience at the Hoosier Lottery’s downtown Indianapolis office. He encountered other players who said they were facing similar problems, with prize amounts in the thousands.

Lottery officials told those players the matter was under investigation. They also said players would be contacted by mail within four to six weeks, as described in Ganote’s post.

The lottery has also added guidance for people who want to formally challenge a ticket result or protest an outcome. The game’s webpage now includes a disclaimer directing players who want to file a complaint or protest to complete a formal claim form or contact lottery officials directly.

Players experiencing issues with the Space Invaders Cash Invasion scratch-off are being directed to call 1-800-955-6886 or email Info@HoosierLottery.com.

The Hoosier Lottery said its $5 Space Invaders Fast Play game and an associated second-chance promotion remain available.

At the moment, the game is off sale, but the question players are asking is straightforward: how many people were affected, and what fixes are in place so the ticket-and-scan outcome matches every time?
