In nod to Fauci, Eagles’ Vic Fangio cites Fifth Amendment during presser

The Fifth Amendment now extends to NFL press conferences.

One day after Dr. Anthony Fauci made headlines for exercising his Fifth Amendment rights more than100 times during a hearing on Capitol Hill, Vic Fangio got an idea – to apply that strategy in a different setting.

The Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator stepped up to the microphone on July 30 and announced he would be channeling Fauci during the press conference.

Take a look:

“What’s the plan at safety?” Fangio was asked.

“I’m gonna be like Fauci and just take the Fifth Amendment on questions,” he responded. “Did you guys see that? Oh my god. What was the question?”

Fangio and reporters laughed during the exchange.

The defensive coordinator did eventually answer the question, before Fauci came into the mix again later.

Fangio was asked if there have been any conversations about bringing Brandon Graham back, given the injury to the newly-acquired Jonathan Greenard.

“You guys had Howie [Roseman] up here yesterday, you should’ve asked him that,” Fangio said.

The reporter said that question was asked.

Fangio saw the opportunity to crack another joke and promptly responded, “And what did he say? He ducked you? He Fauci’d you?”

While Fangio made it through the rest of the press conference without invoking the Fifth Amendment, it could certainly be a tool in his toolbox going forward.
