Video shows a citizen firing shots to divert a mass shooter at In-N-Out drive-thru in Idaho during a shooting that left several dead and injured.
Law enforcement has identified the man they say opened fire at an Idaho In-N-Out Burger, killing three people and injuring seven others.
Twin Falls police Chief Matthew Hicks identified the suspected shooter as Chad Williams, 24. Hicks said an armed citizen and an off-duty state trooper both fired at Williams, but Williams died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Hicks said investigators were still working to determine a potential motive for the mass shooting, which rocked the small city in Idaho’s Magic Valley.

Who is the In-N-Out shooting suspect?
Hicks said police believe Williams acted alone in carrying out the shooting. He warned the public against spreading misinformation about the attack, disputing rumors that the shooter was a member of the fire department and social media posts that falsely identified another man as the gunman.
Williams’ family has been notified of the shooting and is cooperating with law enforcement, Hicks said.
“At this time we are still working to determine the full set of circumstances in this incident, including the suspect’s actions and possible motivations,” Hicks said.
What happened in the In-N-Out shooting?
Hundreds of people were in and around a busy shopping plaza in Twin Falls when gunfire erupted at the recently opened In-N-Out Burger at around 2:30 p.m. local time on Aug. 1.
“It was a very chaotic scene,” Hicks said at an Aug. 2 news conference.
Lane Koehn, who captured cellphone video of the incident, told KTVB-TV that he was waiting at a stop light when shots began ringing out and hit a car just feet in front of him.
Koehn said he saw the shooter at least 30 feet away, firing what looked like a semi-automatic rifle at people in their vehicles and through the restaurant’s drive-thru window. Then an armed bystander emerged and began firing at the shooter, Koehn told the outlet.
Hicks said an off-duty trooper also fired at the shooter during the attack, calling both people “heroic.”
“We believe their actions helped drive the suspect away from the scene, preventing further casualties,” he said.
Who are the victims of the In-N-Out shooting?
Hicks said the names of the victims won’t be released until their loved ones have been notified, but details have begun to emerge about those killed and injured in the attack. In-N-Out CEO and owner Lynsi Snyder said that an employee who was “taking care of” customers was among those killed.
“My heart is broken, my chest is heavy, my eyes burn from the tears I’ve shed,” Snyder posted on Facebook, adding that the shooter “took the precious lives of our Associate and Customers, innocent people who never saw it coming.”
Two of the seven people injured remained in critical condition, authorities said on Aug. 2. Three were listed in stable condition, while two others were treated and released from the hospital.
Loved ones identified one of the injured victims as Terry Dudley, a driver for North Star Taxi, which operates in Twin Falls and the surrounding areas. The business said he was in stable condition but “has a very long road ahead of him.”
Dudley is a widower and father of four “who works hard, loves deeply, and never hesitates to lend a helping hand,” James Palmer, who identified himself as a friend and co-worker of Dudley’s, said in a GoFundMe post.
“Terry was simply charging his Tesla when he was shot twice in the back. In a matter of moments, an ordinary day became a nightmare that no family should ever have to endure,” Palmer wrote on the online fundraiser.
