LINCOLN, Neb. — On a normal day, Haymarket Park hums. This week, it feels like something rare is finally returning.
Will Bolt is watching the same question play out in his head: whether 10,000 fans will show up for Nebraska’s NCAA Regional game on Friday. He’s not just talking about attendance. He’s talking about the kind of atmosphere that turns a tournament game into a memory.
Nebraska hasn’t hosted an NCAA Tournament game since 2008. For Bolt, that drought has been a driving goal since his arrival in 2019. The Huskers come into the matchup with a record of 42-15, and they’ll face South Dakota State on Friday at 3 p.m.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
Bolt remembers playing in an NCAA Regional in Lincoln in the early 2000s. He recalls the number of red-clad fans and the energy that filled the stadium. Ole Miss and Arizona State are also in Lincoln this week for the NCAA Regional. turning the city’s baseball buzz into something bigger than one game.
All teams hit the field on Thursday for practice. That same day included interviews with players and coaches. The Huskers also made one key decision public: Carson Jasa will be the starting pitcher against the Jackrabbits. Jasa has a 3.78 ERA this season with 109 strikeouts.
The NCAA Regional runs Friday through Monday at Haymarket Park. Ahead of Friday’s games, Bolt, Tucker Timmerman, and Rhett Stokes spoke to Nebraska media members.
