Hurricanes dominate Flyers in Game 1 of Round 2

Hurricanes dominate – Carolina opened the Round 2 series with a 3-0 shutout over Philadelphia as Logan Stankoven scored twice.

A Round 2 series can hinge on the opening shift, and the Carolina Hurricanes delivered a statement performance with a 3-0 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.

Logan Stankoven scored twice to keep his postseason momentum rolling. with Jackson Blake adding the other goal as Carolina controlled the game from the first puck drop.. Frederik Andersen earned the shutout. making 18 saves to record his second blanking of the playoffs and seventh in his postseason career.

For Philadelphia, the night started with limited offensive rhythm. The Flyers managed only nine shots on goal through two periods and were held in check at even strength, struggling to find sustained pressure on Andersen.

Carolina’s tempo and finishing proved decisive early.. Stankoven struck quickly, scoring 1:31 into the game, and then added another as the Hurricanes continued to turn possession into opportunities.. Blake extended the lead as he drove through the middle and slipped a shot past Dan Vladar to put the Flyers on the back foot.

This mattered because it flipped the usual series storyline: instead of waiting for openings, Carolina created them, forcing Philadelphia into a reactive posture that never really changed.

While the Hurricanes benefitted from a sharp start, the Flyers also arrived with their own disadvantages. Owen Tippett, the team’s regular-season goals leader, was unavailable due to an injury, and the gameplan had to compensate for that absence.

The physical edge also surfaced late, with the contest growing testy over the final stretch.. Multiple players had to be separated and the game featured 10-minute misconduct penalties for Philadelphia’s Trevor Zegras and Nick Seeler. along with misconduct penalties involving Blake and Shayne Gostisbehere for Carolina.

Meanwhile, both teams were missing key pieces, and the margins were clear. Carolina played without defenseman Alexander Nikishin after he suffered a concussion in the earlier series against Ottawa, while Philadelphia continued to work around the loss of Tippett.

Game 2 is set for Monday night in Raleigh, where Philadelphia will look to sharpen its start and turn the series back toward its terms. For the Hurricanes, the challenge will be sustaining this level of control after a night when the Flyers never truly found their footing.
