Hunter Goodman hits three homers as Rockies top Twins

Colorado designated hitter Hunter Goodman blasted three home runs against the Minnesota Twins on Saturday, including two 428-foot shots off Mike Paredes and a 401-foot homer off Kody Funderburk as the Rockies took a late lead.

MINNEAPOLIS — Hunter Goodman didn’t just damage the Minnesota Twins’ pitching on Saturday. He rewrote the scoreboard three separate times, turning a matchup that could swing either way into something louder and cleaner than most at-bats ever become.

The Colorado Rockies designated hitter launched three long home runs against Minnesota, including two no-doubters against Twins starter Mike Paredes. In his first two at-bats. Goodman hit a solo shot in the first inning that reached the third deck in left field. Statcast-estimated at 428 feet. He followed it with another 428-foot homer in the third inning. this one landing in the bullpens beyond the fence in left-center.

Goodman added another moment of control later in the game. After grounding out in the fifth, he came up in the seventh with two runners on base and the Rockies leading 3-2. He worked the count full, then took a high sinker from Kody Funderburk and drove it 401 feet into the seats in left-center.

His power didn’t start yesterday, either. Goodman also hit a two-out, two-run homer in the ninth inning on Friday, briefly giving Colorado the lead before the Twins rallied to pull out a 9-8 win in 10 innings. That 451-foot blast was the longest home run of the day, according to Baseball Savant.

The numbers keep piling up for the 26-year-old slugger. He has 25 home runs on the season after hitting a career-best 31 last year.

  1. I swear 428 feet is basically throwing it into space. Twins pitchers really just left him hangin twice??

  2. Wait so he hit two in the 3rd deck and then a 401 into left-center… but it says Rockies took a late lead, so how does that not mean Twins still won? Baseball is confusing when they’re not clear.

  3. Hunter Goodman has 25 now? That’s wild. Also those “no-doubters” wording is funny like okay we get it he crushed it, but I’m more worried about Minnesota’s bullpen if one guy can rewrite the scoreboard that many times.
