Howell earns $7.3 million as NFLPA stint ends

Lloyd Howell’s short NFL Players Association tenure—running from June 2023 to July 2025—ended with sudden resignation amid controversies. An NFLPA filing shows nearly $6.8 million in salary and $7.3 million in total compensation.

Lloyd Howell’s time with the NFL Players Association ended with a hurried exit, and the paperwork now shows just how quickly that “cup of coffee” translated into money.

Howell worked for the union from June 2023 through July 2025, lasting little more than two years. During that period, he received nearly $6.8 million in salary and $7.3 million in total compensation, figures that appear in the NFLPA’s annual LM-2 filing, required under federal law.

The resignation didn’t come with much time to settle. Howell left abruptly after controversies that began when it was revealed he had hidden a significant collusion ruling from NFLPA members. He stepped away just before a report emerged regarding the alleged charging of strip-club expenses to the union.

When Howell exited, David White replaced him on an interim basis. White received $1.9 million during the 2026 fiscal year, according to the same type of financial disclosure in the NFLPA’s LM-2 filing.

The numbers are striking on their own. but they also sit beside a different NFL payday that the league no longer breaks out publicly. While the NFL stopped disclosing Commissioner compensation after ending its tax-exempt status. Roger Goodell is generally believed to be making well in excess of $60 million per year—more than any player earns. As Howell took in $7.3 million, Goodell’s compensation is described as exceeding $130 million over the same span.
