Messi made the announcement on Instagram, saying “After the time that passed since the final, thinking about it a lot, I want to communicate to everyone that I am retiring from the national team. It was a decision that hurt and hurts in a soul, but I understand that this is the moment.”
He has been wearing the blue and white striped Argentina jersey for nearly two decades. The jersey itself is iconic and I wouldn’t expect it to last long on shelves after this announcement.
