USA TODAY’s Fernando Cervantes shares which states have claimed the most Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots wins.
The Powerball jackpot has grown to a whopping $748 million after no one won in the Saturday, Aug. 1 drawing.
The jackpot was last won on May 2, when two players in Texas and Florida split $20 million in winnings.
After more than three months of rollovers, the prize pot is nearing the top 10 biggest Powerball jackpots ever. It’s also one of the largest lottery jackpots so far this year. Just recently, on July 28, a player in Florida won an $800 million Mega Millions jackpot.
Ahead of the next Powerball drawing, here’s what to know about playing.
How to play Powerball
Powerball tickets cost $2 per play. They are sold in 45 states, plus Washington, DC; Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
To play, select five white ball numbers from 1 to 69 and one red Powerball number from 1 to 26. Players can also opt for a “Quick Pick,” which allows a computerized system to select the numbers for you.
For an additional $1, players can add Power Play, which multiplies non-jackpot prizes.
When is the next Powerball drawing?
The next Powerball drawing is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 3. It will begin at approximately 10:59 p.m. ET.
Drawings can be watched live on Powerball’s website. They take place every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
