House of the Dragon Season 3 launches June 21

HBO’s “House of the Dragon” Season 3 is set to premiere Sunday, June 21 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO, with weekly episodes streaming on HBO Max through August 9. The new season, based on George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood,” expands the Targaryen succession struggle
On the eve of Sunday’s premiere, the show is still promising the same thing it has always used to pull viewers in: violence that doesn’t wait.
“House of the Dragon” returns for Season 3 as the Targaryen power struggle tips from rivalry into all-out civil war. The stakes are telegraphed in the final trailer released May 29. which teases the “Battle of the Gullet. ” featuring a fiery clash of dragons and ships that showrunner Ryan Condal called “arguably the craziest episode of television ever made.”.
The series, a prequel to “Game of Thrones,” is set 200 years before the events of that HBO hit. Season 3 keeps that historical distance even as it brings the succession fight fully into warfare between rival Targaryen factions.
The premiere is scheduled for Sunday, June 21 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO, with episodes also available to stream on HBO Max starting that same day. New episodes will drop weekly through August 9.
The season is listed at eight episodes, with the schedule running:
Episode 1: June 21
Episode 2: June 28
Episode 3: July 5
Episode 4: July 12
Episode 5: July 19
Episode 6: July 26
Episode 7: August 2
Episode 8: August 9
The cast for Season 3 includes Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, Emma D’Arcy as Rhaenyra Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Queen Dowager Alicent Hightower, and Tom Glynn-Carney as King Aegon II Targaryen. Phia Saban plays Queen Helaena Targaryen, with Ewan Mitchell as Prince Aemond Targaryen.
Bethany Antonia is set as Lady Baela Targaryen, and Phoebe Campbell appears as Rhaena Targaryen. Fabien Frankel will play Ser Criston Cole, while Rhys Ifans takes the role of Ser Otto Hightower. Steve Toussaint is listed as Lord Corlys Velaryon. Abubakar Salim as Alyn of Hull. and Matthew Needham as Lord Larys Strong.
The season also features Abigail Thorn as Admiral Sharako Lohar and includes supporting roles from Contributing names: Kelly Lawler and Bryan Alexander.
The thread connecting the trailer. the release date. and the weekly run is straightforward: the show is building momentum toward major set pieces from its own history. The “Battle of the Gullet” tease lands right as the premiere calendar begins June 21. with the war-focused escalation continuing episode by episode through August 9.
For viewers planning ahead, the path is simple—watch on HBO at 9 p.m. ET/PT Sunday, June 21, or stream the premiere on HBO Max the same day. Either way, Season 3’s calendar is set: eight episodes, one each week, ending August 9.

June 21? nice. I’m just gonna binge it anyway lol.
Wait so is it on HBO or HBO Max first? Like the article says both but then “weekly” makes it confusing. I hate when they do that.
“Battle of the Gullet” sounds like something from Game of Thrones season 1? I swear I’ve heard that name before. So are they basically just remaking the old battles with Targaryens 200 years earlier?
8 episodes only?? That seems short for a civil war arc. Also Matt Smith Daemon again, okay sure, but is the whole season just ships and dragons nonstop? I’m hyped but also kinda annoyed we gotta wait every week till August 9.
