House Democrats allege Trump-linked group redirected 250 donors

America250 donors – A 41-page interim report from House Democrats says donors who meant to give to America250 were allegedly redirected, without their knowledge, to Freedom 250—an organization tied closely to President Donald Trump’s priorities. Freedom 250 denies the claims, as

For people trying to fund America’s 250th birthday through a bipartisan nonprofit, the decision was meant to be straightforward: give to America250, the organization overseen by a bipartisan congressional commission.

Instead, a Democratic interim report claims some donors were allegedly rerouted—without their knowledge—into a separate nonprofit that has been promoted in connection with President Donald Trump.

The report. compiled by Democratic staff on the House Natural Resources Committee. alleges that donors who intended to support America250 were given incorrect wire instructions so their money would flow to Freedom 250. The report says this could happen in a way that lets an entity “redirect” gifts solicited in the name of the nonpartisan birthday commission without the donor realizing it.

In the report’s language, if the allegations are true, the conduct could amount to “potential wire fraud and charitable solicitation fraud.” The report does not say how much money was diverted, if any.

The interim document—41 pages—also describes a broader struggle between America250 and Freedom 250. It alleges that Trump allies sought to sideline America250 while putting the president at the center of the nation’s anniversary and “selling” access to him in exchange for donations.

Freedom 250’s activities are largely overseen by top Trump aides. The report says the group has taken steps to brand itself as “nonpartisan,” presenting itself as “leading the celebration” of America’s birthday.

Freedom 250’s spokesperson, Danielle Alvarez, rejected the allegations in a statement. She called the report “categorically false. ” saying it is “nothing more than a partisan smear from politicians who would rather manufacture division than celebrate America’s 250th birthday alongside the rest of the country.”.

The White House and the National Park Foundation were contacted for comment.

This dispute is not happening in the abstract. Freedom 250. the report says. is a subsidiary of the National Park Foundation that was launched late last year to carry out 250th programming tied to what Trump hopes will “renew national pride.” Among the events Freedom 250 is promoting are Trump’s Great American State Fair on the National Mall. The report also lists an IndyCar race in Washington. DC. and the Patriot Games. a youth athletic contest in which two teenaged victors would split a $250. 000 scholarship prize. scheduled for August.

America250, for its part, says the money behind major July Fourth events is largely private. An America250 spokesperson told CNN last month that most financial support for its major July Fourth events comes from “private sources.” When asked about tensions with Freedom 250 over sponsors and federal funds. the spokesperson said America250 supports “private sponsors having the flexibility to work with all organizations planning events and initiatives” for the 250th.

Rosie Rios. chair of America250. said in a statement on Thursday that the organization will “continue to focus on the values-based programming approved by our bipartisan Commission at the local. state. national and international levels. including once-in-a-lifetime celebratory moments during the 4th of July weekend.” She added: “We are supportive of the many other organizations planning events for the 250th at the federal. state and local level. so all Americans have ample opportunities to join in the celebration.”.

The friction between the groups extends into the finances—and into accusations about who got promised federal money.

The report describes an ongoing struggle between Freedom 250 and America250 over taxpayer funds. Committee Democrats allege America250 was left with a shortfall of $100 million.

Citing news reports and confidential interviews conducted by staff, the report says the Trump administration refused to hand over federal funding it had promised to America250.

Last year. Congress allocated $150 million to 250th celebrations in the “One Big Beautiful Bill.” The report contends that White House officials and America250 agreed the group would receive $100 million of those funds. But the report says White House officials told America250 in November it would receive only $50 million.

The report then claims America250 has so far received only half of that amount—$25 million—and has “struggled to execute planned programming amid financial uncertainty and misalignment with Freedom 250.”

Alvarez, the Freedom 250 spokesperson, criticized America250 by saying the commission had “nothing to show for” the years and money spent on the nation’s birthday. She said, “We stepped in to rescue our nation’s 250th birthday from years of wasted time, wasted money, and failed planning.”

The National Park Foundation told committee Democrats in a letter last month that the majority of Freedom 250’s operating funds come from “federal funds appropriated by Congress specifically for the 250th anniversary commemorations,” according to the report.

Federal records cited in the report show $68 million has been sent from the Department of Interior to the foundation, which can distribute that funding to Freedom 250.

The report also references Freedom 250 sponsorship packages that include VIP event access, speaking roles at the national Fourth of July celebration, and an “historic photo opportunity” with Trump for people who meet donation benchmarks.

The National Park Foundation told Democrats on the committee that it was not involved in the development of Freedom 250’s promotional material or donor-benefit packages, according to the report.

Freedom 250 and America250 both have the ability to maintain donor anonymity. But Freedom 250’s connection to the White House has drawn attention from watchdog groups and Democrats demanding that Freedom 250 make donor identities public.

Freedom 250 lists about two dozen sponsors on its website. The report says sponsors include Palantir. Lockheed Martin and Oracle—companies with large federal contracts to provide data and defense services. It also lists Ultimate Fighting Championship and Penske Corp. saying Ultimate Fighting Championship is led by Trump ally Dana White and Penske Corp. is led by Roger Penske.

When Freedom 250 was asked last month whether it would publicly disclose its donors, CEO Keith Krach told CNN in an interview: “We’re all about accountability and transparency.”

The National Park Foundation has said that both public and private Freedom 250 funds received or expended will be accounted for through its standard financial reporting and audit processes.

Before the report’s release, Rep. Jared Huffman— a California Democrat who serves as ranking member on the Natural Resources Committee—said on June 25 that he hopes to more aggressively investigate Freedom 250 if Democrats retake the House in November. He noted that committee chairs have subpoena power. Huffman said: “There certainly are red flags waving everywhere about the corrupt quality of this whole enterprise. but we may not be able to tell the full story until sometime next year.”.

The report’s allegations—wire instructions reportedly sent in error. donor anonymity. sponsorship benefits. and federal funding disputes—land at a moment when the anniversary itself is the public stage. For supporters who thought their contributions would go to a bipartisan commission. the central question now is blunt: how many donors knew where their money was truly headed. and when did they find out?.

  1. Not surprised. These “birthday commission” things always turn into some behind the scenes Trump adjacent stuff. If donors were rerouted, that’s shady as hell, but also I didn’t read all 41 pages lol.

  2. Wait I thought America’s 250th birthday was already government run? If it’s bipartisan then why would Democrats be investigating wiring instructions… sounds like both sides just fighting over the paperwork. Freedom 250 denies it but wire fraud allegations are hard to explain away. Idk, I’m confused.

  3. This is why I don’t trust fundraising emails. “Incorrect wire instructions” sounds like someone hit the wrong link, but they’re saying it was on purpose to redirect to Freedom 250. Freedom 250 is tied to Trump’s priorities right? That’s what the article says, but it also says America250 was overseen by a bipartisan congressional commission, so wouldn’t the commission catch it? Maybe they didn’t, or maybe the report is exaggerated. Either way, if it’s true, that’s fraud.
