Henderson’s wrist injury shadows England’s Mexico win

Henderson wrist – Jordan Henderson was stretchered off after a wrist injury during England’s postgame celebrations following the team’s 3-2 World Cup round-of-16 win over Mexico. England coach Thomas Tuchel said the injury is “quite serious,” after England survived with 10 men

Jordan Henderson didn’t make it far past the celebrations.

After England’s 3-2 win over Mexico in the World Cup round of 16. video captured the England midfielder falling while hopping over an advertising board as the team sang “Wonderwall” with fans in Mexico City. He landed hard on the grass as he tried to break his fall, and he was stretchered off soon after.

England manager Thomas Tuchel confirmed following the game that Henderson had hurt his wrist. “He’s gone to the hospital, it’s quite a serious injury,” Tuchel told reporters. “It doesn’t fit with the night. I don’t know if there will be a procedure.”

The timing is brutal for England. The win against the co-hosts at the Estadio Azteca came with the added strain of being reduced to 10 men for nearly the entire second half. Henderson didn’t play in the match, but he still received a yellow card for his conduct on the sidelines.

With Henderson sidelined and the severity of the wrist injury still uncertain, England now turns its attention to the next test: Norway in the World Cup quarterfinals on Saturday, July 11.

England will face Norway at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. The match is scheduled for 5 p.m. ETV, airing on Fox and streaming on the FOX One App. Spanish-language coverage is set to be on Telemundo and Peacock.

As England prepares to shift from Mexico City’s night of celebration to the pressure of a quarterfinal week, Tuchel’s message hangs over every training session now: Henderson has gone to the hospital, and the plan beyond that is not yet clear.

The match details are set. The bigger question is what kind of shape England’s midfield will be in when Saturday arrives—and how much Henderson’s wrist injury will determine what comes next.

  1. He got stretchered off after jumping over a board? That seems like one of those “why are you doing that” injuries lol. Also he already wasn’t even playing so how is he getting a yellow too? Rules are wild.

  2. I don’t even know if this is the same Henderson cause there’s like 3 different Jordans, but if it’s him then I guess it’s “quite serious” like the coach said. Procedure? Like surgery after a fall during celebrations?? England really can’t catch a break and now it’s Norway next… honestly I thought Mexico would’ve won.

  3. They survived with 10 men and then he gets hurt on a music hype moment, wow. Wrist injuries are annoying too because it’s not like a bruise you can just ignore, you still have to use it. Also the article said he got a yellow on the sidelines which feels like it should’ve mattered more than the actual game? Idk. Quarterfinal vs Norway in Miami at 5… gotta watch but if his wrist is busted they’re gonna be dragging.
