England had just sealed a big win during the 2026 World Cup, defeating Mexico 3-2 in Mexico City. Henderson, 36, didn’t play in the match against Mexico, where he watched from the bench. The celebration ended abruptly when Henderson went to jump back over one of the boards. He slipped and fell directly on his wrist.
Dan Burn, who had hopped over just before Henderson, turned around and saw his teammate down. Burn walked back and immediately waved medics over for help. Henderson was attended to and taken off the field in a stretcher.
In a post-match press conference, England manager Thomas Tuchel confirmed that Henderson was hospitalized with a serious injury. “He injured his wrist. he is at the moment in the hospital. ” Tuchel said. adding: “It is a quite serious injury.” He also described the impact of the moment on the group. saying: “It just doesn’t fit to the evening that Jordan is now not with us.” Tuchel added that after completing his media duties. he was told the player was in hospital.
Henderson is expected to stay the night in the hospital with a team staffer, while the rest of the squad flies back to its training base in Kansas City.
Over the tournament so far, Henderson has appeared in only one game—England’s 6-0 win over Panama on June 27 in New Jersey. In that match, he came on as a substitute and played the final six minutes. The veteran midfielder has previously played in three World Cups.

So he didn’t even play and then he’s hospitalized?? I swear these guys can’t catch a break. Also why is England in Mexico City still if he can’t run the boards lol.
I saw the headline and thought it was like a player fight or something but nah it’s just a slip. Still, Tuchel said “quite serious” which means sports media always exaggerates it anyway. Hope it’s not broken, but if he was jumping over boards that seems like poor safety.
This is why I don’t trust those stadium celebrations. One second you’re winning 3-2 and the next your season is over. But wasn’t he already hurt? Like he only played 6 minutes vs Panama, so maybe his wrist was acting up then too. Anyway Mexico City is always dusty or whatever, that’s my guess.
