Saturday and Sunday start the same way: with the kind of heat that makes the air feel heavier than the forecast numbers suggest.
For both days, they’re First Alert Weather Days, with heat indices climbing to 105°–112°. Storms will develop, and some of them could turn severe, bringing damaging wind gusts and small hail.
Saturday runs warm and fast—75/98—with a heat advisory likely as it feels like 108° or higher. There’s a 40% chance of afternoon or early evening thunderstorms. At the same time, a cold front moves toward the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry. It may bring more cloud coverage and increase rain chances, but it does little to nothing for heat relief.
Sunday doesn’t cool the situation down. The outlook is 75/96, and a heat advisory may be issued again as feels like temperatures approach 110°. The storm risk rises too: a 50% chance of afternoon or early evening thunderstorms.
By Monday, the pattern shifts toward a lower heat index but still-simmering storm chances. Monday is 76/94 with heat indices around 100°, and a 60% chance of afternoon thunderstorms.
Then the days turn more gray than dramatic. Tuesday is 74/86, mostly cloudy, with on and off rain chances as another cold front stalls in the area. The chance of rain or isolated storms is 60%. Wednesday is 73/85 and mostly cloudy, with a 60% chance of scattered rainstorms.
Thursday brings a smaller storm window—74/92 with a 30% chance of afternoon showers and storms—followed by Friday at 76/93, also with a 30% chance of afternoon showers and storms.
Under it all, the ocean is moving too. For the rest of Friday, winds are S at 10 kt with seas building 2 to 3 ft. Saturday brings W winds 5 to 10 kt, becoming SW in the afternoon, with seas around 2 ft. Saturday night: SW winds 10 to 15 kt with seas 2 ft. Sunday winds turn SW at 10 to 15 kt with seas 2 to 3 ft, along with a slight chance of showers and storms. Sunday night will be rougher: SW winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts to 25 kt, and seas building to 3 to 4 ft.
Even as swimmers and boaters watch the forecast, the rip current risk stays low for Saturday.
Over the horizon, the tropics offer one more thing to track. Disorganized showers and storms in the Bay of Campeche have a 20% chance of tropical development in the next two to seven days. For now, there’s no threat to the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry.
The weekend message is simple, even if the weather won’t be: plan for heat that pushes into the triple digits, and keep an eye on storms that could bring damaging wind gusts and small hail.
