MP Transport MEC visits scene after crash kills 10

The Mpumalanga MEC for Roads and Transport, Thulasizwe Thomo, has conveyed condolences to the families of victims who were killed during a head-on collision between a minibus taxi and a bus on the R39 road between Standerton and Morgenzone on Thursday morning. Eight people died on the scene; one died while being transported to the hospital, and the other died while receiving treatment at a local hospital. All ten deceased were occupants of the minibus taxi, including the driver. The MEC wishes those who sustained

injuries a speedy recovery. “I’m planning to visit the scene probably this afternoon, just to do our own assessment as a department. But we’re still receiving reports from the inspectors that are deployed there to assess the scene. We also wanted to wish a speedy recovery to those who have survived. This is really tragic, and it is something we did not anticipate. From what we are told, the scene is still active, and the families are there. We still want to send a clarion

call to our motorists to be cautious on our roads, although we still have not established the cause of this accident”, he says.
