Halo: Campaign Evolved is set to arrive on July 28, and this time Microsoft isn’t just teasing it—it’s showing what will actually be played.

During its Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday, Microsoft unveiled additional details about the upcoming remake of Halo: Combat Evolved’s campaign mode. The remake will debut on Xbox Series S / X, PC, and PS5 on July 28.

Right away, the spotlight fell on Operation: Meteorite, a new three-mission story arc featured in today’s mission trailer. Operation: Meteorite takes place a year before the events of the first game, and it features Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson.

Microsoft also framed Campaign Evolved as a “modern evolution” of the original story, an approach it first introduced last year. The remake is built in Unreal Engine 5. and it’s designed to deliver “stunning new 4K visuals. updated animations. remastered music. and re-recorded voice lines.” Alongside Operation: Meteorite. Microsoft says there are three brand-new “prequel” missions.

There’s more than presentation changes in the new build. Halo Studios is adding weapons from later titles, including the energy sword and the battle rifle. The remake also keeps the series’ flexibility: players will be able to enjoy two-player local split-screen co-op. as well as up to four-player co-op online.

A hands-on preview added another layer to the hype. Microsoft’s demo impression—via a colleague who played Campaign Evolved—described it as something that “looks and feels distinctively Halo. ” while also emphasizing that there’s “a lot going on in Campaign Evolved beyond its Unreal Engine 5-powered visuals.”.

Preorders are starting today, with a $69.99 premium edition offering early access to the game on July 23. For collectors, Microsoft is also launching a $199.99 collector’s edition packed with a 12-inch “Dark Horse” Master Chief statue, a light up LED Cortana chip, and more.

With Operation: Meteorite, new prequel missions, Unreal Engine 5 upgrades, and co-op options across platforms, Halo: Campaign Evolved is shaping up to be less of a simple replay of a classic—and more of a full campaign refresh aimed at returning players and new audiences alike.
