By the time Morgan Vanette pushes the Chronometer far enough to bend time, Avalon stops acting like a backdrop and starts acting like a deal.
In the steampunk city of Avalon, beauty is real—but it isn’t free. The world runs on industry and ambition, polished on top while dirty hands work underneath. In places like the Tangle, where streets choke on ash, survival doesn’t come from optimism. It comes from leverage. alliances. and the ability to live with consequences—especially when those consequences can be rewritten. and when rewrites ripple back onto the people closest to you.
Clockwork Revolution makes that personal. It’s a time-bending first-person action RPG where your look. skills. and choices can shape who Morgan becomes over the course of the game. The version of Morgan you see in the trailer is only one possible outcome. At the start. you’ll customize who Morgan is. and then through decisions during the game. you’ll steer who Morgan becomes.
Guiding that journey is Prentice, a flying automaton met very early in the game. She’s described as part observer and part companion, joining Morgan across the timescape. Prentice is tied to how you end up with the Chronometer. and she becomes your guide through the branching realities you create. She also has her own abilities and a skill tree—set up not just to explain the time travel mechanics. but to offer new ways to see and interact with the world.
The Chronometer is what turns choices into leverage. It can unlock new abilities that let you manipulate time directly. One ability shown in the trailer—and called a personal favorite—is Displace, which instantly repositions certain objects. The footage gives a sense of the power’s range: Displace can open paths. solve problems. or turn the environment into a weapon. In the trailer. it’s used to launch an explosive barrel into a group of enemies. a direct reminder that “rewriting history” in Avalon isn’t only philosophical. It’s tactical.
And then there are the people who get hit when you pull those threads.
In Avalon, having allies in the moment matters—because time travel doesn’t change decisions in isolation. It changes who you return to. The Rotten Row Hooligans are introduced during a heist gone wrong: Ulysses, Nazim, Erasmus, Hazel, and Anne. In the Tangle, the game frames the gang as necessary, not optional. They aren’t companion characters that simply tag along; they have their own lives and their own stories. and they have “plenty to lose” when Morgan starts messing with time.
That’s the emotional center of Clockwork Revolution’s pitch: when you reach into the past, the people closest to you feel it first. Their lives change in ways you don’t always see coming, and the crew you come back to might not be the same crew you left.
But Morgan isn’t fighting through consequences alone. Lady Ironwood is already using time travel to keep her grip on power. She rules Avalon with ruthless precision, reshaping the past so the future stays exactly the way she wants it. Once Morgan starts uncovering what she’s done. the conflict sharpens—Lady Ironwood’s Industrial Secret Service agents move in behind you.
The fight, then, isn’t just about staying ahead in Avalon. It’s about building something better while someone else is quietly rewriting reality to keep Avalon tilted in her favor. The game says staying ahead will be a constant push—cunning will matter as much as brute capability—and that every choice you make will matter. whether the effects are big. small. immediate. or delayed.
Clockwork Revolution is scheduled for release “in due time” in 2027 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, cloud, and included with Game Pass. It will also be playable on both console and PC at no additional cost with Xbox Play Anywhere, and it will be available on Steam.
The team at inXile entertainment says they’re hard at work on the game, and that more will be shared before launch. The game is available to wishlist now, with updates planned between now and release—an invitation to watch, then decide, and then live with whatever your version of Avalon becomes.
