Gwyneth Paltrow Says Brad Falchuk Thinks She’s Republican

Gwyneth Paltrow says her husband, Brad Falchuk, is so progressive that he thinks she’s a Republican—though she insists she isn’t and describes herself as “completely an independent” while trying to avoid America’s increasingly binary politics.
Gwyneth Paltrow admits her politics don’t fit neatly in one box anymore—at least not in the way her husband, “Glee” co-creator Brad Falchuk, seems to see them.
On “The Goop Podcast,” Paltrow sat down with Trae Stephens, the co-founder of the AI defense company Anduril Industries, to talk through what they called the “charged” relationship many Americans have with the defense industry.
Stephens said he believes open, respectful dialogue is the only way to move past the problems people are seeing “in the country.” Paltrow agreed, adding that she’s noticed that kind of tension close to home too.
“I noticed with my own husband too,” she said. “He’s so progressive. Like he has such a sweet heart and he wants to, like, make sure everybody’s looked after.”
But she described moments where she feels like she’s watching the conversation slide into something louder and more divided.
“In this climate,” Paltrow said, “sometimes I’m like, ‘Can you just listen to this?’”
She then traced what she feels is a broader national problem—how conversations have become “so binary.” In her words, she’s trying to “weave together lots of different points of view,” and to move away from “righteousness and anger and fear.”
“My husband thinks I’m a Republican,” Paltrow said, before quickly clarifying, “But I think it’s, which I’m not a Republican.” She added, “I don’t feel anything right now to be totally honest with you. I feel like I’m completely an independent.”
The political distance she described also showed up during a personal trip she recounted: Paltrow and Falchuk went to Nashville and watched a singer onstage. She said she grew “vaguely worried” because the singer apparently had “completely different points of view than my husband. ” and she wondered how Falchuk might react.
“I just thought, no, but this is so beautiful to see somebody who clearly is such a good person coming from such a different place,” she said.
Her latest political remarks come as she continues to speak publicly about how she navigates what she calls shifting expectations—both on and off camera. Last March, Paltrow said she didn’t know what an intimacy coordinator was while filming “Marty Supreme.”
“There’s now something called an intimacy coordinator, which I did not know existed,” she said. She added that they told the coordinator, “I think we’re good. You can step a little bit back.”
Paltrow described how. after the coordinator attempted to set up rehearsal of scenes. she told the coordinator. “Girl. I’m from the era where you get naked. you get in bed. the camera’s on.” She also said that if someone is told exactly where to put their hand. she would feel “very stifled by that. ” and she wondered about how it might affect “kids who are starting out.”.
The through-line in Paltrow’s recent remarks is unmistakable: in a culture she says has hardened into extremes, she’s trying—on subjects ranging from politics to on-set intimacy practices—to keep room for listening, nuance, and people showing up as more than a label.

So she’s not Republican but her husband thinks she is… that’s just marriage drama lol.
The AI defense company part is what’s wild to me. Like how is she talking about being “independent” when she’s literally near defense/AI money? Sounds like she’s trying to dodge the whole left/right label thing but the vibe is still political.
Wait I thought she was saying she’s Republican because her husband is progressive? My brain keeps flipping it. Also who cares what her husband thinks, people can like different stuff.
“Binary politics” yeah sure, but it feels like rich celebs always say the nicest things while everyone else has to deal with the actual consequences. Goop gonna go “weave together points of view” but then watch her statements get spun either way anyway. And Nashville?? Isn’t Nashville like 10 miles from being red, so how was that trip neutral lol
