Greenville Haywood Mall shooting leaves two injured, police say
Greenville police responded to reports of gunfire at Haywood Mall on June 13 and found two victims who were taken to the hospital. Authorities detained several people, cleared the mall, and said no additional shots were fired after officers arrived.
Gunfire reports sent Greenville officers into motion inside Haywood Mall on June 13, and by the time police cleared the retail center, two victims had already been found and taken to the hospital.
Greenville police responded to reports of gunfire at Haywood Mall and located two victims, according to Greenville police Sgt. Johnathan Bragg. The victims were transported to the hospital. Bragg said several people were detained as officers secured the area.
Police and the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office cleared the mall. Officers said no other shots were fired after they arrived on the scene.
The incident comes after Haywood Mall had already signaled it would tighten security. A year earlier, the mall released a statement saying it would be stepping up security following several reports of fighting at the mall.
In the June 2025 statement, the mall said, “The safety and security of our shoppers, retailers, and employees is our highest priority.” The statement also said authorities stepped up security in and around the retail center, including increasing the police presence.
For now, authorities have moved past the immediate search of the mall—clearing it after the reported gunfire—while the hospital status of the victims and what led to the shots remain key parts of the story still unfolding.
